Skyrim is locked at 30fps on all consoles. That means it's completely impossible for it to go any higher than 30fps.

That said, I don't know how you got anything higher - if you actually did get anything higher at all.

well thats weird.

seriously everytime im in solitude i always have a slight fps drop, its jaggy when it renders scenery around you etc

but before... it was totally smooth! i can't explain it... maybe it was just a placebo effect :/

What? Why would they put a limit of 30fps on consoles?

Lots of reasons. Here's a couple:

1. It prevents tearing artifacts on your screen.
2. It ensures that the frame rate will be consistent on the consoles, which run on six year old hardware.

That probably means you used to experience that scene below 30fps, and for some reason you finally saw it at 30fps this time.

If you haven't played in a long time (as in, several months) then maybe you're just noticing the performance improvements we got with 1.4 now or something...

Or perhaps that area just renders faster at night since there isn't a bunch of people wandering around the streets and such.

it probably just feels like it's higher than 30 because not much is going on, so there's little to no framerate drops.

How do you get screen tearing on ps3?
Depending upon the software, you can get screen tearing on any device.

You see, most monitors and TV's operate at 60hz. In otherwords, the hardware in the screen itself updates the image at 60fps. If video memory is updated out of sync with the video hardware, then you'll get a visible "tear" across the screen as two images are essentially spliced together. Game developers avoid this problem by locking their games at 30fps or 60fps. On PC games, this is sometimes an optional setting called "Vertical Sync."
