Wondering why enchanted items cost less per level?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 1:15 pm

I've been slowly researching enchantment, and I have came to a conclusion on why your(and my) weapons have been lowering in value for every enchantment level we gain. It's simple really, Each time you gain a level, the grand soul charge capacity raises (it is a multiple of 1), while the petty soul still only grants a lower number of charges. Thus the higher your total capacity available, the lower your price will be for petty gem enchants will be. While grand soul enchants will stay the same. Now you're thinking.. "but what about rings and armor?" Same concept. Grand soul gives a multiplier of 1. And petty gives a lower multiplier. Grand soul = highest, so anything lower is less valuable. Also, "soul" prices in gems, do not effect anything, in anyway.

Are you certain about that?

I was assuming it to be an economic function. The more iron daggers of absorb health there are, the less each are individually valued. But I guess the change did most often happen at skill increases.

I'm 95% sure. Think, the less charges you put (the lower the blue bar) the less value.. As more charges can be added to an item, the blue bar will get filled less and less by the petty gems, therefore lowering the price.

It's not "mighty" it's grand.. and yes technically they are the highest, although many creatures who's souls you can trap also count as grand.

Yeah, What Xycolian said. The grand soul is the "base" for all costs, as it's the highest soul you can get. The higher your enchantment the more the Grand Soul will give out. Same with petty, but petty is VERY limited (it goes up, but very very rarely), thus the enchantment from petty becomes less valuable.(same with all that aren't grand, to an extent)

The only time I've had trouble with enchanting prices going down is when I use a petty gem, and the interface resets to a lower level enchant to provide a full charge. Just adjust the slider back to highest level, but empty, and you'll get the proper expensive enchantment again.

Okay, I've noticed even the grand soul enchants go down too. Petty more because of the petty soul, and it can't be the economy due to it not going down unless you level.. hrm.. looks like despite bein 95% sure i wasn't exactly right..

Oh really? I'll have to test that here in a minute.

Edit: Nope didn't work for me.

Alright. I haven't noticed this glitch, except in that case, but I haven't been looking hard either. I'll check it tonight.

I've noticed this. It looks like a bug. The more powerful the enchantment (past a certain point) the enchantment starts to get less valuable. I started noticing this when my enchant skill (plus potion) started exceeding 100. It may have happened sooner, but that's when I noticed it.

Okay I think maybe I found a better reason.. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the max charge amount changes each level up?

it's not really a "bug" so much as a economic inequality with what the arcane enchanter believe's is the best and what the vendor's believe is the most valuable.

Honestly it will probably never get fixed because infinity money is still infinity. There is a balance, and you can go through the effort of lowering the level of banish to get more charges and find the right balance, or you could choose not to. either works, both make you infinite money. so... meh?

You are certainly correct though, there are points of enchanting where the price falls for no conceivable reason. I have done this the hard way twice. There are a couple points where the value just drops inexplicably. The value formula should have been. (Base cost*Enchanting Skill*Soul used). Then for selling items that had charges. it should be (Total/max charges)*charges remaining. This way each charge gets assigned a value, based on the total item value. Making the number of charges on a full item irrelevant to the value of the item.
