Wood Elf Archer

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:19 am

I made a wood Elf Archer, who would use the enviroment, strategy, and sneak to kill his prey, the problem was I found the game so EASY when I did that! I had to rise the diffuculty, and I'm not that experinced either, did any of you encounter problems like these before? Is it because I used a race that was best suited to my role? Or my playing style? Or both? I have never HAD to rise the difficulty above adept before.

*NOTE* please no bragging like: "I play on master all the time!" or Personal attacking like: "you play with adept difficulty, ha you svck" Let's make this a friendly thread k?

It depends entirely on how you play/roleplay - you have very little context in your post.

Niamh is a Bosmer archer + sneak, etc... and she regularly gets her ass handed to her.

And that's on adept.

Yeah. The Bosmer archer/thief works fine as long as you can keep yourself hidden, but as soon as you're out in the open... >.>

Aye, that's for sure.
Mind you she also doesn't wear any armour at all so that makes it somewhat more challenging if she gets caught in melee.

My MC is a Bosmer Thief/Archer and I use Illusion to go with it. As long as I'm not spotted I'm fine but a close combat situation I die rather quickly. The only weapons I carry are my trusty bow and duel daggers.

On any of my archers, light arrmor is a must have. Id rather carry the few pounds for oodles of protection

I decided to make this Bosmer to be a strategist, using traps against the enemy, shooting arrows to get the enemy to split up, etc. That's been working real fine for me, I also find myself good with the bow (not trying to brag) maybe it's because of all my FPS? But when forced into melee combat I use daggers and find myself chugging down a lot of health potions.

Sneak archers are very powerfull characters, but tend to be a glass cannon.
Very powerfull, almost over powered, when hidden in the shadows, but when found out they can be difficult to keep them alive.
I've never had to raise the difficulty setting as I think a good sneak archer should be a fairly slow and easy gameplay.
It's very satisfying to sneak through a dungeon shooting people from range and not even being found out.

Well I guess later on in the game I might have to lower it again right now I'm on expert, but this is a new character is only level 10, so I guess that's why. I find it more satisfying getting long shots while in sneak like as far away as possible without the enemy fading, I love how cinematic it is too!

So you want more challenge, but you wanna stay on adept?... Why not try expert or master?

I am using expert, but I never had to rise the difficulty before because of how easy the game was, so I was wondering why

Are you also useing smithing on your bow?
If so smithing can make any weapon type much easier than normal.

Also you did say you were level 10,the game is fairly easy at that point.Things start to get more balanced later,at around level 25 or so.
At least that is my experience with the game.

It's just the way it is. I havn't played on anything but master, but I can tell you that a proper built archer just like alot of other builds will steamroll this game even with master difficulty. Not much you can do about it really. You could install PISE (a mod) if you are on PC - that will make fights a bit more exciting at least.

My Dunmer is an Archer (Still pissed they took away the Archery bonus Dunmer had) it's a fun way to play for me at least. I also always go armor/cosmetic wise Looks> Durability hence why I stay in Leather Armor the whole game cause it's pretty much the only armor that I feel suits my character.

I will tell you this much.. things get harder as you go up in level but I would suggest you perhaps mix it up a bit, don't allow yourself only to use bow, perhaps put some magic into it?
Maybe start with sneak attack and if that doesn't kill them or the other 3 enemies detect you, use perhaps Destruction spells?
You can always be a Mage Archer, just use Bound Bow insted. It's possible to learn Bound Bow from level 1 if you get someone to aid you, a mercenary perhaps and you just need some magic stats on you and perhaps be around level 3-6 with putting points into magicka.

I will make my first wood elf archer when dawnguard comes out, will focus on sneak/archery and be my first character to not use any smithing alchemy or enchanting, planning to stay lower level and utlise the improved werwolf form instead of having to raise my level by using one handed and smithing.

In relation to the topic name it is not the race you have picked that is making the game easy, you could easily be getting the same results with any other race.

Ha adept, you svck!!1eleven

But seriously, you are obviously good at stealth, as it's like others say - as long as you stay hidden it's all gravy. I found the same thing with my stealth character, I was royally screwed if I got spotted. I play on adept too btw. Theres no shame in playing the difficulty you enjoy.

Some people just find the game easier than others,as long as your having fun it doesn't matter.

I play on Novice, I don't find the game hard I just hate dying as it ruins immersion, with Novice you're pretty much invincible, although you can still die if you aren't careful at times.

I played on Master with my Wood Elf Archer/Thief. It was quite a challenge. I wore all multipliers like bracers, amulets etc for archery and me my Daedric Bow and my Ebony Arrows would kill anything that had a heartbeat.
