Woops...

Started playing last night, and I'm not very far into the main story - at least, I wasn't. I got sidetracked with the whole "Find a Sheriff" side-quest, then decided that was boring and that I'd make my way to New Vegas for some fun. I was not expecting to run into masses of Deathclaws along the way - perhaps that was a sign I wasn't supposed to be this far north at this point in the game. But, of course, I found a way around them and snuck through the hills toward The Strip. Took me quite awhile to figure out how to get into the town, and once I did I was confronted with some potentially big spoilers about the robot that finds you at the start of the game (forgot his name) and Mr. House. Did I accidentally skip a big part of the story here? Or just a small part, or none at all? The game seems to assume that I know the name of my assaulter at this point, something which I hadn't found out yet. (The part of the main storyline quest I'm on is still wanting me to ask around about him.) Could this ruin my game experience, would it be best for me to start over or at least go back and continue the story from the proper point, or would there be little harm in just continuing from here?

if you want the full story, I recommend going back to the proper point. There is a good chunk you are skipping that i think you'll want to see.

Yeah I think you find out his name if you talked to more than 3 people about him ever. Also, though it is very muffled, I am pretty sure one of the guys in the intro does say "You got what you were after Benny, so pay up"

Hm, so just how much have I skipped here? Anyone have a rough estimate of say, what percentage of the story I'm mssing if I just continue from here?

Some pretty specific numbers there, thanks. I guess I'll just head back and try to 'catch up' to where I am.

You skipped two quests you could do related to Nipton, one at Mojave Outpost, a bunch in Novac including a big interesting one, the stand-off in Boulder City, a big number of locations with potentially interesting things including Camp Forlorn Hope ('bout 4 NCR quests you missed) & Nelson (near Novac) and a companion, also in Novac.

I probably missed a lot more, but here's what I know.

You need to follow the road south from GS, then east, then north, yes it's a lot longer but no deathclaws :nope:

The game leads you along a U shaped path south from Goodsprings and then north again towards Vegas. Yeah, you missed some stuff.
