It Worked! It Worked!

Based on BmZ's suggestion, I went to the CoW to see if you could ride a dragon half way across Skrym (more like a third, but who's counting?) Well it worked! I got a Revered Dragon to attack and then got it to fly me around. I then ordered it to land and it started heading towards Shearpoint as BmZ indicated.

Why make a new thread about this instead of using the existing one? Because not only was I able to travel across country, but I got into a royal dragon battle on the way!

First we flew by the shrine to Azura. That was cool enough in itself. But then as we passed over Mount Anthor the dragon that lives there rose to engage us in battle. This time it was another Revered Dragon. I am not sure if my dragon actually did much during the airborne part of the battle. I don't recall it shouting even once. The other dragon hit us with a drain vitality shout several times. I used Grand Healing several times to keep my dragon (as well as myself) healthy. Fortunately, since Revered Dragons are fire dragons I was able to use Icy Spear which has a much faster travel time than Incinerate. Eventually we reduced the other dragon's health enough to force it to land, which it did on the north shore of Lake Yorgrim. My dragon then landed beside it and the two dragons proceeded to bite each other. After killing our foe we took off again and are now circling around Yorgim's Overlook.

The only drawback was it was snowing like crazy making it hard to see. But boy was that cool!

So all you guys who want to have a good time riding a dragon, head up to the CoW and hope for a dragon attack!

I don't think healing spells actually work on dragons. The story sounds cool though.

Very awesome. Glad it worked. I passed the same dragon but it was an ancient, and it didn't attack. There was however a frost dragon awaiting at shearpoint. As I landed, frosty engaged my revered in battle and I watched the two of them fight it out until eventually the revered turned on me. I had to take them both out. It was a very fun fight. It goes to show what kind of mayhem you could get yourself into and how awesome dragon riding would be if they fully implemented it.

I'm almost positive it does. It shows the visual effects of the spell surrounding the dragon as well as your self.

I got the same flying sequence as that with Odahviing on The Throat of the World. We went all the way to the base of Eldersblood Peak and had a battle there. We even flew over low-res Whiterun. It was pretty cool.

Well, I'll have to try that when I get that far. Thanks for the tip. Right now I just started Diplomatic Immunity. Otherwise I would have used Clear Skies during the battle so I could see better.

I am the one true Dragonborn!

So I went back to Winterhold to get back on that dragon and this time we flew all the way to Shearpoint. When we got there the Frost dragon that was there rose up to fight with us. When we finally got its health down it crashed near the world wall and as we landed to finish it off Krosis popped out of his coffin! So now we were fighting Krosis. So Krosis, baby, maybe its about time you gave up your allegiance to the dragons and become a priest for me. Ha!

Get on a dragon. Take it to the college of winterhold, and while you are circling around, tell the dragon to land. Instead of landing, you will fly all the way to shearpoint. It's seems the dragon has problems landing at high altitudes and will glitch and fly a great distance before landing. Also works at lakeview manor and the throat of the world. Possibly more locations.
