OK, so I’ve finally decided to go ahead and start working on my Helgen Rebuilt mod. Previously, I had poked around the Helgen exterior area a little, but this past Sunday, I really started to pick it apart. But dayum, there is SO much crap going on in this area it’s a bit overwhelming, lol. I don’t think that the parts I need to be working with are all that complex per-se, as they’re mostly just the standard run-of-the-mill enable/disable parent type stuff that I feel pretty comfortable with. The problem I have is that when certain assets are enabled, the way things are set up with setting other objects “opposite of parent” on the same enabling reference, it seems that disabling things I need to disable also enables certain things I do NOT want enabled. This is of course using the vanilla references to enable/disable what is already attached to them. I really hesitate altering anything that has to do with the intro sequence as it has the potential of basically screwing the game up for people. If I can figure it out, I would reset Helgen via the vanilla enable markers to the state it was in prior to Alduin’s attack (minus all the NPC’s), then add my own markers to enable all the new clutter, buildings and additions to the Fort and surrounding areas at various stages in my quests for the rebuild. I have a feeling that much of my new stuff will have to go outside the fort, probably heading down the hill.
I guess what I need advice on it this:
What’s the easiest way to determine when some of these enable markers are actually being enabled/disabled. A couple are named by the quests they’re sort of associated with. But others are not named in a manner that I can figure out exactly when they get enabled or disabled.
Secondly, is there an easier way to actually determine what a specific marker enables other than clicking it and following the lines to its objects? This is murder to do because there are things everywhere obstructing my views of other things, and it’s very hard to make out. Plus, there are collision markers, activators and tons of other boxes going in every direction. And unfortunately, turning them off with the “M” key, also turns off the markers, lol. I have been clicking on things and hitting 1, 1 to hide them, but I find I also need to hit F5 to reload often as well, so it’s an extremely tedious process going back and hiding all those boxes again.
I hope I’ve not bitten off more than I can chew, lol. But any advice would be appreciated.
