AP World History Exam

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 4:14 am

WElp.... for those of you who don't know, the AP world history exam is a horrible test made by the devil that we have to study for throughout the entire school year in AP World History. It's a college level class, so I probably shouldn't have signed up for it in the first place knowing that I am the biggest procrastinator in my school, (Or maybe I am actually the most clever person there? The actual deadline for work isn't until the end of the quarter, so why struggle with it all throughout months when you only need to freak out for one week?)

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone on this forum has taken the exam before and passed, and if so, what would you recommend I focus my studies on? When I ask the teacher, she replies with a very simple, "EVERYTHING", but I know they aren't going to cover every single inch of content given to us. What do you guys think is the most important stuff to know?

All AP students are procrastinators, in my school, and we all did great on our AP World History exams. If this is the same AP World History exam and you pay attention to the material discussed in class by your teacher, there should be no problem even if you do minimal studying.

Man, I'm so glad I don't have to take any more AP exams.

Same. Everyone was cramming a couple days before the exam. At the beginning of the year, it feels as if the exam is so far away and you don't have to worry about it now. But then before you know it, it's May already.

Yep and every subsequent year and AP class afterwards, the process repeats. I like my AP classes, though. They're interesting.

I love exams though. Assignments svck because they take effort, tests/exams are much more my style.

Just think of it this way. In most scenarios you will be exempt from taking the class once you go to college and that can save you hundreds of dollars. I got out of a lot of my college gen ed courses, and if I had taken more AP classes I would have been able to actually start going in depth with my major as soon as my second semester of freshman year. The work you'll do in an AP class is also substantially less than the work you'll be assigned in an actual college course. The difficulty level is still the same but I found myself writing ten page papers my freshmen year in history compared to the three to five page papers I could have been doing in AP classes.

I feel so lucky. My Western Civ professor has literally not had us do anything. He flat out called off the mid term, and hasn't said anything about a final. It pretty much rules. Still, I love the class. It may be his intention, but, since he gives no work, I sort of feel obligated to listen to him.
Anyway, Blackhand, good luck on your test. Much luck!

Ouch, good luck, that sounds pretty brutal.

I've got an advanced math exam tomorrow, and I should be spending all my free time today studying. TV and the internet is so much more fun, though... Not to mention that I'm useless at math, so studying is kinda sorta needed to even scraqe a pass.

It's a college level class

This is a lie, first year of tertiary education = easier than second to last year at school.

Second year of tertiary education = holy WTF, when did we ever discuss this in class, this wasn't in my textbook, I understand nothing.

Why 'world history'? Why not 'history of the street you currently live on'? Would make your life easier :)

Each AP exam has varying degrees of difficulty. The AP US History exam that I will be taken has a reputation for being particularly formidable. The only other AP class I have taken is AP World Geography, which is one of the easiest AP courses available. The exam wasn't that bad, I was a slacker in class. I got a 4/5.

Regardless, and this goes for any test, you don't need to be studying for it throughout the year. You should focus on studying in a meaningful way that makes sure you know the material, and that does not require that much time, especially if you forget a lot from your early studying. I can't give any specific advice though, because I'm pretty sure that AP class isn't even offered at my school.

AP is all about memorization, especially in the history classes. Or at least that worked for me, I got 5's on the 8 exams I took.

I took it a few years back, scored a 4. I don't recall it being particularly hard. There's stuff to memorize, of course, but you should also remember the basic relationships and patterns so that you can effectively BS an essay if you remember absolutely nothing about the topic. I found those review books they sell to be helpful (and really boring. I fell asleep a couple times reading the AP Hist. one).

Isn't amazing how in this day and age, just mentioning the name of the place you live can result in a person on the opposite side of the world using satellite photography to view your house?

Oh, did I say amazing? I meant creepy.

I agree, I like the http://www.google.com/imgres?q=redrow+estate+lancashire&um=1&hl=en&safe=off&sa=N&rlz=1T4ACGW_enUS411US411&biw=1600&bih=639&tbm=isch&tbnid=z7NIdLgULGYStM:&imgrefurl=http://www.whathouse.co.uk/redrow-new-homes-in-lancashire-show-homes-launch-january-2010-314&docid=1vXTAAgoYYFtXM&imgurl=http://www.whathouse.co.uk/sites/default/files/RedrowWindsor.jpg&w=600&h=447&ei=gxjPTsnqAqjXiQLribX4Cw&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=359&sig=105485791848016108784&page=1&tbnh=141&tbnw=178&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=79&ty=59 that aren't too red or too brown. Or, if yours is the http://www.google.com/imgres?q=redrow+estate+lancashire&um=1&hl=en&safe=off&sa=N&rlz=1T4ACGW_enUS411US411&biw=1600&bih=639&tbm=isch&tbnid=bXGyK7v08gaXqM:&imgrefurl=http://www.smartnewhomes.com/contentsearch/All/Buckshaw-Village/page1.aspx&docid=bZLaHJKRZflB5M&imgurl=http://img.smartnewhomes.com/media/content/15480_26124624.jpg&w=200&h=300&ei=gxjPTsnqAqjXiQLribX4Cw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=481&vpy=128&dur=109&hovh=240&hovw=160&tx=88&ty=128&sig=105485791848016108784&page=1&tbnh=141&tbnw=94&start=0&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0 I think it's a tad too plain. Maybe if it were a different, slightly darker, color, I would like it more.
Oh, uhh, what's that? I agree. Yeah, that's strange.

It might be if there weren't dozens of estates built by Redrow in this town alone. :P

My friend has a sign on his porch that says "on this site, 100 years ago, Nothing important happened here."

ON TOPIC: I remember my world history exam. It was Honors world history, but we do not have AP here. It is IB, which is like all AP classes for every subject. The IB curriculum is actually rumored to be easier than the Honors curriculum at our school. I loved my history class and passed history with flying colors. I also, on that same year, took my chemistry exam, slacked off in the class most of the time, never wrote a lick of notes, and somehow pulled a perfect score on the test out of nowhere. When the teacher told me my grade, I damn near crapped myself. True story!
