my Worse Nightmare

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 9:13 am

I have to tell you that my worst nightmare is having to traverse those friggin gates with the Whirlwind Sprint: Trying to press the "W" and the "ALT" keys simultaneously while at the same time “hitting the friggin “Z” key. I am a 65 year old man and I have just spent an hour trying to get through and I have gotten so stressed that my heart is actually hurting. I am likely to have a heart attack trying to work that [censored] puzzle. It’s not fair either.

You can just stand in front of the traps and press the Z key and you will shoot forward.

If you are having trouble after just some traps, then you may want to take it easy because that is the least stressful part of the game.

Console -> tcl -> walk past -> console -> tcl.

Fairness is a silly concept.

I reconfigured the shout key from Z to C.

Z is too awkward.

He's not talking about traps. In Ustengrav there are three gates that you can only get through by sprinting past corresponding stones and then using Whirlwind Sprint before the gates close again. It's tricky, I had problems with that too.

I appreciate everyone's help. It's a bear trying to get through. I am just not that fast and coordinated anymore. Plus, I am left handed on a right handed keyboard. At the very least that’s my excuse.
It’s just at some point you have to let go of the “W” > “ALT” keys and then press the “Z” key. You simply cannot hold down all three keys at once. I would rather succeed at doing it than cheat: However, sitting here for over an hour rinsing-and-repeating is not my forte. So, I will gladly use the cheat code. Thanks again everyone.

I re-mapped shout to the button on the side of my mouse (mouse4) works good in combat too

Silly or not it is a [censored] to accomplish. Incidentally, the code doesn't work either.

Well, darn it, I finally got through it.

I guess you have to hold down all three keys and then at the point to where the character finishes the shout you release the "W" and the "Z" keys respectively. But, I still absolutely hate this puzzle and dread having to do it over again in the future.

Congratulations :) The good news is that there won't be any other locations like this, so you won't need to repeat it.
Why didn't the code help, though? It should allow you to walk through walls, I tried it out in my game and it worked fine?

Good you solved it, but weren't you supposed to simply press your shout key to activate the stones (I started from a standstill) and then easily run through the gates?

Middle finger on W, ring finger on Z, thumb on Alt...

I don't get why that's awkward?

I guess age doesn't matter when it comes to that puzzle. Even so, I am getting to the point where I have to write everything down or I will forget. It's getting even more difficult to think and type on a keyboard simultaneously. I have a difficult time spelling any more too. Incidentally, I am not trying to make excuses. It is what it is: old age creeping up on me. That being said, playing video games helps with cognition and (some) dexterity. However, patience and fortitude isn't one of the perks. :violin:

Oh that puzzle was [censored] as 99% of the time i couldnt get past the first damn door because it would go all invisible wall on me the moment i got close to it. the gates would be open for 2 seconds maxium but at 1.5sec an invisible wall would pop up and prevent me to go forward ><

Doesn't help that Beth carefully coded the PC version so that four of the most used keys E and space and R and F are exactly reversed from Oblivion and Morrowind, and of course Q and C do different things as well. Unitl I remapped the first two I kept jumping all the time. And after 3 weeks I still draw my weapon when I want to switch to 3rd person to keep from getting motion sickness.

So the alt/z/w key thing is just more annoyance. And I hated that particular "puzzle". It was stuff like that that made me give up FPS. That and the aforementioned motion sickness.

Right past the first gate is a chain. Pull it and the first gate or two stay open. There is another chain further in that keeps the other(s) open.
