I personally didn't miss the random locations all that much, but I'm also not the type of person that likes to spend hours on end collecting random items in-game and wandering around. I think the issue that some folks had with NV could be fixed by simply telling Obsidian to add more stuff to find. I mean, a lot of stuff got added later via DLC, so it was certainly possible to simply have included more of this type of content in NV to begin with.
Not so much "yay, ramdom places to go loot" although that is fun.. but the FO3 setting had more of a "boy and his dog" feeling to it, maybe because of the complete destruction of the Capitol wastelands, where as NV -to me- feels more like a society more or less, back on it's feet somehow.
I love both FO3 and NV dearly, and I agree with Beth taking care of world creation, and OB with world content.. or something.
never mind me, ol' gramps is mumbling incoherently in the corner again
