Would TES be better As a TV show or a movie?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:10 pm

If anyone has seen a TV or Movie adaption of a game, you'd easily know if it worked better else where or not at all. If a studio was going to make an adaption of the ES series, would it work better in a film or a TV show? Would there be a setting from the game or a completely new one that works off the history of Tamriel? And God forbid they get Sean Bean to play to someone.

I'd like to see one based in the history of TES... Honestly I'd watch a movie about that or a TV series about it... The difference being that it all depends on the scope of the story they pick... If it was a longer story it would be better as a tv series like Legend of the Seeker which was based on the first two books of the Sword of Truth novels or Game of Thrones which is based on the Song of Ice and Fire series of books... If they did a smaller story though I'd be happier with a movie instead of them having to find filler for a tv series...

The TES novels were pretty good, I don't know about fitting in movies and TV but for books the TES universe fits really well.

A series of TV movies/miniseries like that being done with Terry Pratchett's discworld by SkyOne. If you follow that sort of format, you get a bunch of 3 hour stories from the world of Tamriel, that would be awesome. I'd love "The Real Barenziah" to be adapted like that.

If it was a TV series it'd have to be on HBO or Showtime, 1 hour long episodes. Or if it was a movie, I'd have to pick James Cameron or Peter Jackson to pull off an epic like this. Preferably Jackson because Cameron is my Fallout director pick lol.

Not a movie, please. I can see it getting snipped and (somewhat) butchered like Peter Jackson's rendition of LoTR if there was one.

I would love to see a series of novels though. Perhaps it would take over the time alot myself in reading Tom Clancy's works.

There is a lot of potential for a movie or TV series based on TES.

Just never want to see it as they have screwed up every other game to movie adaptation ever made.

RPGs generally don't make good movies. Or at least I've never seen one that is good. Seen a couple tv series and a couple movies of Final Fantasy, a much more movie-friendly franchise - the series were unwatchable, the movies were ok-ish... I doubt that a franchise like TES, which is in comparison really weak storywise, would do any better...

Movie would be ok with me. Good movie!!!! Not like the last Tom Clancy book they put into a movie, I walked out. Ruined the whole timeline!

HBO series would be cool to, they seem to to a good job.

Forget all those "Ryanverse" movies. What they should have done was make "Red Storm Rising" into a mini-series. It maybe a little too late for it now, because a nice portion of a potential audience probably didn't have to live through the "Cold War" era.

But I can't see the ES series on either the TV or the big screen without it becoming a convoluted mess... not to mention it getting panned by the masses.

I would like to keep this as a game and I make my own story. If they go to any other form of entertainment it should be books. The two Elder Scrolls novels were surprisingly good.

Tv show, if simply because you couldn't fit all the length into a single movie without sacrificing stuff. Also, a tv show could focus on minor characters and random stuff like background plots and storylines in episodes.

I wouldn't mind a special in the 1st Era. Something about Queen Alessia or Reman, or about characters living during those times. Lots of history TES hasn't really touched. 3rd Era + 200 years is so covered, already.

The TES novels were pretty good, I don't know about fitting in movies and TV but for books the TES universe fits really well.

Interestingly, I hear just as many people hated Infernal City as those that liked it. Something about the 1st book being too wordy/fan-only jargon. I hear the second book Lord of Souls did much better. I think the explanation was that "Only a fan would get it." Not that that's a baaad thing, bc we're the target demographic ... but any new guy would look at it, scoff, and probably walk away? Dunno.

Agreed. The same goes for televison series. Look up "Kindred: The Embraced" for details.

As cool as an ES movie sounds, I don't think that 2 hours wouldn't do the series any justice if there ever was one. It would have to be fleshed out in a saga/trilogy like Harry Potter or LoTR was... and it would have to be really good to get my wallet to open up.

yes but I'd go watch it.... my 1st Tom Clancy book and still my favorite! Without Remorse, 2nd

Wanted to link that too.

Skyrim is the best materials for a 80's-90's style kids' show. Hell yeah.

Also, Dwagi the Dragon is actually the main boss. Alduin was just a distraction.

I think Skyrim should be an opera.

Oblivion should be a movie and Morrowind should be a 15hr over 5 nights miniseries.
