Would you play games like this if there was no FAST TRAVEL?

Sure. Presumably a sandbox game with no fast travel would be developed with that in mind. If you took FONV and simply removed fast travel it would make some aspects pretty onerous.

They could put in quests like the caravan guard stuff from FO 2 which gave my characters something to do while traveling. The events of the travels had some interesting random battles!

Unless you mean like no fast travel at all?

I agree with Hungry Donner. I dislike all the walking around you have to do sometimes, but it could also really add to the game sometimes (for example, in hardcoe mode it feels almost like a cheat to be able to zip around to take a drink at a clean water source whenever you get thirsty). If the game was exactly as-is but without fast-travel, it would be way too boring to play through since it'd take ten minutes to go anywhere and there aren't enough cool things happening in between places for that to be all that acceptable. If the game actually took the lack of fast-travel into account, it could be cool. For example, see Morrowind (though it had some form of fast travel system, it wasn't at all like FO3, Oblivion, or NV's). For an example of a game kind of like this with no fast travel system, see STALKER.

Only if I get a Motorcycle instead. Running around the Mojave can get boring really fast, especially with all the travel quests require.

A horse, a horse! My casino for a horse!

But seriously, hardcoe would have greatly benefited (and appealed to more players) if they had decided to remove Fast Travel and instead insert a traveling vehicle, i.e. a horse, or motorcycle, ATV, what have you.

A horse would make sense given the environment, but oddly enough I have yet to see a horse in any iteration in the Fallout universe. Maybe they are around I just forgot about them, but is it possible they all died off after the bombs fell?

As for a motorcycle, you could even implement a speed limitations. Something like the bike would ride well over road and asphalt, but poorly in the sand, rocky, mountainous regions (Yes, I realize this is already done in Fallen Earth). This would force the player to make tactical decisions regarding the wisdom of riding a vehicle designed for a particular style of terrain. As well, you could include the concept of gasoline/petrol/energy cells that fuel the bike, thereby giving another 'meter' in hardcoe mode that the player has to take consideration of.

That's just how I would have done it. Hell, I might even try to port the old motorcycle mod from FO3 and try it for myself.

I'd be more grumpy than a bear I they took out fast travel. Once I've earned the map marker, I feel I've earned the privelege of ignoring the trip, because to be honest, it would be very tedious to keep travelling between New Vegas and Goodsprings every damn time I need something.

And in Fallout. And ya get paid for it as well if ya survive the battle or if there no battle at all!

But ya, I would still able to play it without fast travel.

Just as long as they added a vehicle similar to the Horse in Oblivion. I commonly abandon fast travel for using the horse in ES:O.

First off, If you don't like fast travel, don't use it then.

I voted No. Going from one end of the map to the other end of the map, do quest and then go back to other end of map is not my idea of fun. No fast travel then I will not bother with the game.

I use fast travel when I can't bother just walking for the sake of walking. It is not fun. I play this game to get away from real life. I play to get the stress out of me. I do not play not to have fun and add more stress because of tedium walking for no reason what so ever just because a few people do not like fast travel and think that I don't need fast travel.

It's a single player game, what I do should have no effect on you at all. If you don't like it, don't use it, simple as that.

If I can have a motorcycle of considerable speed, take it away. But imagine doing a quest like Papa Kahn without fast travel! Around the canyon, to the The Fort, to Deathclaw Land, back to Hoover Dam, and back again to the canyon.

No thank you.

Unless the game was designed around not having fast travel, hell no. New Vegas would be a pain in the ass if you had to walk absolutely everywhere. It's just tedious. Unless you were to suggest that they add in a FO1/FO2 style travel. That would be a decent middle ground.

It depends on the game. NEHRIM removes the fast travel from OBLIVION and it is annoying to go back and forth to sell loot, which one has to do in those games. Fortunately, NEHRIM has a Mark/Recall spell AND a series of affordable teleports. I think it's a pretty good system overall.

FALLOUT NEW VEGAS has many, many, many quest requiring multiple back-and-forth across areas. No fast-travel would make the game tedious in the extreme. Imagine all the peeps in here who already complaint about load times: going from the Wastes to North Strip without that marker? Ouch.

And, no it's not "more realistic" - without caravans, mounts or any of the things mankind has invented over the millenia to alleviate exactly that problem, it's just a different sort of contrived.

I did without fast travel, until the Great Khan questline. There aren't enough random encounters (are there any at all?) in the Mojave to warrant not using fast travel.
