WTF? Have gems been devalued?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:58 pm

I got the prowler's profit perk two months ago and got tonnes of gems. Lost that save, just started a new game and according to the wiki gems are way less valuable now. A standard emerald was 600 gold on my old save, standard diamonds 800 and sapphires were 400. Apparently std. Diamonds are worth 500 now, and emeralds 250. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Maybe you lost some speech skill, or had an effect that gave you better prices before.

Was it with the same vendor? Maybe you were getting a deal because of your disposition towards them (if it's possible).

Nope, because the base price is always the same when they are in the game world and not in the transaction invetory. The skyrim wikia contradicts my own screenshots I took a while back. Correct me If I'm wrong though. Also, I leveled up speech and the value of the gems when dropped into my gem basket never increased or decreased, they only stayed the same.

People, look at the screenshot. Unless I'm mistaken, the value you see for objects in the environment (as opposed to your inventory when trading) is the *base* price, IE the raw value before speech is factored in.

O.o Funny, this one says 600. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Precious_Gem_(Skyrim)
And it's the same damn wiki. So I'm clueless.

Also notice your wiki link says they weigh 0.5, and mine says they weigh 0.1 which is the true weight.

It's sad that that wiki has become de facto, when UESP was a much more reputable and reliable wiki. Some of the stuff on the wikia is pure garbage.

Look, it's no wonder we're all confused! Skyrim's economy is broken anyway. As wacky as prices are and the disproportionate amount of gold lying around, it's as if the province uses a fiat monetary system.

Maybe it was patched at one point and the wiki hasn't been fully updated.

oh yeah, I just remembered, Todd said something about a dynamic economy in which the player has a role. That was rubbish wan't it? not complaining but that never really came to fruition.

The player has a role to what? Crash the market by hyperinflation? Skyrim is a good example of how the Germans wrecked their economy during WWII.

UESP like a boss.

If the screenshot is taken from when you're selling to someone - it could be shown as less than the actual value of the item (that you never actually get).

Wiki screenshot could be from a screen where they're selling it? Not from the inventory.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people actually depend on these wiki sites as if it's 100% legit. People need to remember that they're not run by officals, only be fans. Anyone could edit the information on a page.
