Had that happen dozens of times (other cities as well)... So it's a completely natural thing to happen.

Only time I saw that was in Solitude yes, but it spawned in the city itself.
How does it get into the city worldspace from the Skyrim worldspace... Does it use the city gate?

Then that would have to function as a portal... Because even withouth collision you can't fly into a city as a player.

No but the Dragon just spawns inside the city cell, and you have to imagine that it flew over the walls...

I battled one in Solitude and afterwards all the citizens and imperial guards gathered around its corpse and talked about it-

Oh they CAN attack in cities. :)

Solitude I've had happen a few times now. Annoyingly the Dragon spawn points appear to be between Blue Palace and Proudspire Manor. If you've bought the latter as your home then going between the two (Or even just walking out your door) has the possibility of a Dragon attack.

The city 'world space' includes the city view of the skyrim 'world space', dragon's can potentially fly in from anywhere.

Dragons can also fly into and out of a city world space. I was fighting one inside Whiterun and then exited through the gate and the dragon was then outside the city walls. They must be scripted to allow them follow you through the load zone.

Unfortunately they can even kill vendors and blacksmiths if they′re in the open. wiped out three of my vendors during my DiD playthrough. Annoying.

What Cities have others seen them in out of curiousity? I've had Dragons in Morthal, Solitude and Winterhold, so far.

I've had them inside Solitude and Whiterun.
Also in some of the smaller settlements including the middle of the College of Winterhold, Riverwood (annoying since it lands on the building roofs!), and in Dawnstar three times! Dragons must hate Dawnstar.

Thusfar in my one game, Riften was racking up quite the draconic bodycount

It is totally possible to get attacked in cities

With the number of dead Thieves also lying around that must be getting pretty cluttered...

I could just imagine my Nord waking up, looking out the window, and a dragon is staring right at him, ready to spit fire. Hopefully he would remember to put some clothes on before running outside to slay the mighty beast.

While it may add to realism, I wouldn't have minded if the city interiors were dragon-proof. It's always a shame (and slight annoyance) when merchants and other useful citizens are killed off with no involvement from my character.

Lol, I take their ill-gotten booty, then throw them into the canol. Once Brand-shei told me to, "put that down!" when I started to drag a corpse to the canol.

There's a theory that using fast travel increases the chance that a dragon will spawn with you at your location. From personal experience I tend to think this theory is correct. If you use fast travel a lot it's probably better to fast travel to stables or other points close to a hold and enter the city on foot to prevent an NPC wipeout.

I've had dragons show up in Whiterun, Solitude, Winterhold, WH College, Dawnstar and Falkreath. Usually right after I fast traveled there.

I've had one in Riften - the only enclosed walled city dragon attack I've witnessed so far.

All except for Whiterun and Markath, both of them seem to be spared the onslaught of dragons that other cities do experience in my (several different) playthroughts... No idea why, probably just luck.

Here's one elder dragon who was unfortunate enough to knock on my door in Whiterun.

Well it looks to me like you haven't posted much or been a member long and WELCOME :) But you must not have searched alot or looked at to many threads on here. I have read numerous posts since release about people being attacked by dragons inside city walls. This really is nothing new.
