It would have been nice to know this BEFORE preorders were being taken.

Please Bethesda respond to this. I need to know if I have to buy a separate version of the game. If the 64-bit version is added with a patch it's no big deal, but if I have to buy a completely different copy of the game I need to know so I can cancel my preorder.

I don't get it. What's this about? I thought Rage should support Win x64 bit by default?

It will likely be released as separate download down the road. all x64 bit versions of software are different excutables going by my previous experience, you wont have to rebuy it again or anything like that.
So dont worry.

it will. the x64 version is probably needed because Id Studio (the tools used to build rage) will probably need access to more memory the actual game will ever need. knowing how Carmack builds his engines for performance across different system levels (low, medium, high etc.)

you will probably not notice a huge difference between the x32 and x64 versions of rage.

Okay, atleast we are getting the tools hopefully. I do have more hope in Cammack than anyone else. Do you think the save games will carry over from the 32 bit to the 64 bit version of the game?

yeah they should. I dont see how not. and if not, whats wrong with playing the game over again? :)

it would still be the same save game format.

In the QuakeCon Keynote Q/A he said that he didn't know which build they had there, x86 or x64. He said the current x86 build is essentially the same as the console build, but the current x64 includes idStudio.

Don't panic. Both will be available. At worse a download from id's FTP site.
