Yeah, the dragons need to land on the ground more often

Post » Thu Jul 12, 2012 4:43 pm

So one of the builds I'm playing is a two handed focused nord who's only using the skyforged steel two handed sword he got when he joined the companions. No ranged, no shield, no spells. Just that big ol steel sword.

However, dragon fights are becoming a 30 minute "wait for him to land" ordeal. I get that it's smart that dragons stay aloft and blast us from afar. heck, it's the way I would fight if I was them.

However it's not fun wandering around drinking resist/heal potions for 20 minutes until the dragon decides to land.

Give us *something* to do or make them land more oftne.

It would be cool of you could paralyze them, but the spell or effect only worked long enough to drop them out of the sky. That way it wouldn't be a cheap way to kill the dragon.

If you were a Dragon, would you use a ground assault more often or would you primarily attack from the skies?

Actually, I noticed that the dragons will land more often if you head to a clearing or large open area.

Case in point, try the dragon over in Autumnwatch Tower. He will rarely land until you run out of the fort-like area and into the nearby field.

I did a playthrough like that. The best thing you can do is either use dragonrend, frost breath or fire breath. Or you could always get a follower that's good with a bow. Moving the battle close to a fort or town can help as well.

Spoiler
I'd say Dragonrend but that's a pain in the ass anyway. It works, but they still land at their own leisure and several meters away, instead of instantly like it should be.

Throw rocks at it?

Buy some healing potions more often or make some yourself. I thought every character knows a healing spell from the beginning? Just take cover when the dragon is in the air, and then charge it when it lands.

Someone beat me to the advice.

I agree with this. Make sure the dragon sees you, then head out to where it can land.

Dragonrend.

If your not interested in doing the whole main story just yet. Do enough to get that shout. It will make everything so much easier.

I hope people don't take this the wrong way but getting to dragonrend isn't easy when there are dragons flying about that won't land.

Come on. Use some common sense. Following any part of the main quest increases dragon appearances and type of dragon.

It's called Dragonrend.
Well I have it and find that on any dragon just flying around even if I use it on the Dragon and yes it does hit them. They fly off in tell the red dot disappears. Now any Dragon that is attacking a town, Dragon lair or a quest one. They will land near the area if hit by Dragonrend. The others that you find just flying around will not land even if hit they just fly away.

The moment I killed a dragon with my fists was the moment I realized I was a demi-god...

OT: making Dragons easier to kill? Absolutely not. If anything, dragons need to be smarter...

Get a follower who uses archery or ranged magic. They will hurt the dragon enough for it to land.

Then, get Dragonrend :)

If you can't use Dragonrend, then your options are distance magic (including other Shouts) or archery. But everyone's right, Dragonrend's the best. Once you have it, you'll probably never want to use anything else.

I played a 2-Hand warrior when I did the main quest. I may be odd, but I kind of enjoyed the strategic aspect of it. Every other creature in the game stays on the ground. Dragons flying up into the air was something different and interesting to me.

it doesn't increase dragon appearances and the type of dragon you can encounter depends on your characters level.

Blast it out of the sky with thunderbolts.
Thats what I do when they refuse to land even after I freaking hit it 4 times with dragonrend.

Actually, since the recent patch, Dragonrend rarely works right - most of the time hitting a dragon with it causes it to go into orbit.
