Yes Man & The Remnants

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 2:30 am

So after being unsatisfied with House or the NCR, I've decided to go for an independent Vegas this time around. The problem with that is that I also want to complete all the quests (excluding ones limited to a specific path of course).

This has been going fine except now I learn that in For Auld Lang Syne the only options for who the Remnants should fight for are either the NCR or the Legion, effectively delivering a big F--- you to people who side with House or Yes Man since it then forces them to kill the Remnants in the Battle for Hoover Dam.

Am I missing something? Is there some way around this that I can't find? Or is this just another instance of Obsidian clearly expecting the player to align themselves with one of the two main factions and not bothering to offer ways around it for the rest of us? :glare:

Well for House and Yes-Man you fight against the Legion primarily don't you? So I presume that you tell them to fight on the side of the NCR; do you have 80 speech?

The problem is that when siding with House or Yes Man the NCR are hostile too at the end, which in turn makes the remnants hostile. It's especially annoying given how badly Arcade wants New Vegas to become independent.

Yeah, my sentiments exactly.

NCR only becomes hostile when you enter the control room of the dam. If the guards are fighting or killed by the Legion, or don't notice you enter, or that they've been killed... ;)

Something crossed my mind on this quest too. Since you don't want to side with NCR or Ceaser, why not just kill the remnents after getting power armor training? Maybe its the evil character in me coming out.

"Yes Man and The Remnants" sounds like a great band name. Hope it's not already taken.

SOLUTION:

Tell the remnants that you are siding with the NCR and deal with the one deserter.

The NCR will not turn hostile during the fight at the bridge if you do any of the following things.
A- reverse-pickpoket C4 or grenades into the two guards' pockets
B- Use a stealthboy to sneak into the control room (must not have any followers)
C- Stealth kill the two guards.
D- Use a stealth boy to plant C4 around the guards at the control room and blow them up while still hidden.

You guys know there's a speech check you can pass to get around those two guards right?

Actully, no, i didn't. That doesn't really matter though as the one of my characters who goes that route has no diplomatic skills :hehe:
