id Software

Typed exactly like that. Lowercase id. Pronounced id not eye-dee. Name based on the three parts that comprise the psychic apparatus: the id, ego, and super-ego. Proof: http://www.idsoftware.com/business/history/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id_Software

The name of the company is currently written with a lowercase id, which is pronounced as in "did" or "kid", and is presented by the company as a reference to the id, a psychological concept introduced by Sigmund Freud. Evidence of the reference can be found as early as Wolfenstein 3D with the statement "that's Id, as in the id, ego, and superego in the psyche" appearing in the game's documentation. Even today, id's History page makes a direct reference to Freud.
In the book, Masters of Doom, it is said that the name 'id' came from the phrase, "in demand."

Now the devs at id can rest easy at night knowing people are actually writing and pronouncing their company name correctly now.

I've always known that but never noticed anytime it's spelled wrong. If I bothered to point out every misspelling or grammatical error on forums, I'd never have time to play games (plus, everyone would think I was a [censored]).

Great, now we just need to school people in the difference between Bethesda and id Software.
