If you could build anywhere...

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:18 am

... then where would you build your house? The available locations for the houses are pretty cool, but given the choice, where in Skyrim would you build it?

I myself was thinking either Dragon's Bridge Overlook (a small Forsworn encampment near Dragon's Bridge, it has a beautiful view over Solitude), atop of Bonestrewn Crest, a mountain right in the middle of Eastmarch, or, my favourite, at Clearspring Tarn, a beautiful pond overlooking all of Eastmarch.

Where would you build your place to settle down?

I'd turn Sky Haven Temple into a true palace, with a splendour worthy of the Akaviro heroes.

I would have my home in the Falkreath hold, next to Lake Illinalta, further up the coast of the lake from Half-Moon Hill towards Markarth.

Somewhere near the great waterfalls between Eastmarch and the Rift.

I've thought about this as well, it'd be really cool if we could actually restore Sky Haven Temple to its former glory, much like the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary in Dawnstar.

Around Darkwater Crossing, you mean? Darkwater Crossing and Ivarstead are built in what probably are so of the best places in Skyrim.

I would build in the southern forest near the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. For many purposes but I like the Forest it is a place I consider my home. All of the beauty of the nature that lives in it.

For me, the perfect placs would be somewhere in the grassy planes of Whiterun Hold (could be near the city itself), in the forests around Riften, preferably somewhere along the southern bank of Lake Honrich, or in Hjaalmarch, but more in the area near Meeko's shack.

I just want a Dwemer elevator that takes me to my underground palace. i don't care where this elevator is located, I just want a dwemer palace to call my own.

The closest you can get is Vlindrell Hall is Markarth, but that is actually located in the city's highest area.

You know what would be ace? A house in the middle of Blackreach, much like the little alchemist's shack that's out there at the moment.

Yeah, I love Vlindrel Hall. And I like the idea of Blackreach but I don't want to be bothered by Falmer. I would like to be able to build my own Sphere guards though, that would be pretty sweet.

If I was converting an existing place: Avanchvnel. It's an underground steampunk palace in a nice, temperate location. And easily defended, too.

If I was building a house in an empty location: Somewhere in the mountains in Winterhold or the Pale. I'd have a snowbound chalet in the finest Kincaide style, with warm lamplight spilling out the windows onto the snow. The perfect sight after a long few days of adventuring.

I would build on top of all the Jarl's palaces/huts to show them who truly runs Skyrim.

Actually, I would be happy if we could just build a hunter's hat up there :)

LOL... maybe the Graybeards could teach you the secret Shout that causes women's clothes to spontaneously fall off.

Oh, you mean 'Sho Da Skiiin'? They guard that jealously; it's about the only thing they have that gets them visitors. Plus you can only unlock the words if you can capture the souls of the Legendary Pimp dragons. Not the easiest thing to do, despite the Cadillac pink scale coloring....

Now DAT'S what I'm talkin' about!

Of course with my luck, the Shout in question probably only works on Argonians. Perv I might be, but not even I am that pervy.

Seriously, I'd want a place hanging off the side of the mountains around Skuldafn. Where better for a dovahkin to hang than the entrance to Sovvengarde.

I created a mod for the PC (sorry Xboxers) that allows you to build anywhere. My home is on the other side of the lake that is close to the thief, warrior, and mage stone. It's a simple little farm house with some cows, goats chickens, and a few amenities. Here's a walk through before I switched some of my furniture to more "upscale" versions.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Hearthfire can do, but I'm pretty satisfied with my mod, so I'm not sure if I'll actually move into one of those houses yet.
