Do you ever feel like this?

In http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-ways-to-tell-youre-getting-too-old-video-games_p2/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=fanpage&utm_campaign=new%2Barticle&wa_ibsrc=http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1230552-do-you-ever-feel-like-this/fanpage, it talks about how you know you're getting too old for video games.

As I read through the article, I can definitely see myself getting there, and I'm just 18. My boyfriend said, "Indeed, and it's sad, because I'm getting there, too... and I'm just 20."
In browsing and posting on the forums, and especially in the Skyrim General Discussion, I have this feeling that we're all starting to get too old for video games.

Often I find myself wishing N64 games were still popular, that there would be a third Dark Cloud in the series because I thought Dark Cloud 1 and 2 for the PlayStation 2 were so awesome, and hold high hopes that maybe someday there will be a Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for the 3DS so that maybe I can pass my generation of games onto my kids (in case something, God forbid, happens to my N64 and PlayStation2). The Spyro series has been lacking after Year of the Dragon, the last wholesome Spyro game in my opinion. I miss old games and find myself embracing very few new ones. I stick to franchises because lately things cater to either shooters in war, or shooters with zombies, or both.

I'm really grateful for Bethesda because, as far as The Elder Scrolls, they're keeping fantasy alive. But after reading that article... I feel like I'm getting old. And it makes me sad.

TL;DRSkim the article real fast. Talk about how old you feel when it comes to the video game industry now vs. when you entered into the life of a gamer.

No. You're never too old for video games. And when you think you're old... remember that there's always someone older than you.

I feel too old for anything that a guy my age would normally do.

I'm not a fan of multiplayer games, but then again I wasn't a fan of them 15 years ago either. Or indeed when I was at college 20+ years ago. And "compelling" stories can often mean "contrived", so I'm ambivalent there. As for fun, there's so much posturing from self-styled veteran players that something has to be excruciating in order to be fun that I don't really care; and there's certainly plenty of new stuff around, even for someone as jaded as me.

For the record, I'm the wrong side of 40 and have been playing computer games for most of that time, excluding a rather long hiatus starting in the mid '90s... probably because I did feel like that back then!

I think our grandparent aged mods would differ. Yes certain moderators are old enough to be your grandparents.

I feel older because I play video games on the computer. Almost everyone I know doesn't.

The article is about hardcoe nostalgia, and no you're never too old for video games, you just aren't looking hard enough for the good ones.

Getting drunk, being outside with friends in public, not showing interest in politics and religion, refrain from using words not commonly used, just minor stuff really. Generally speaking, these are just a few things, but the way I see kids these days (which are as old as me), are whiny and loud bastards that assume the world is a playground for their pleasure.

I do say a number of the things in that article. I'm also gaming a lot more now than I ever have before and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm not saying that anyone can BE too old. I wanted to discuss FEELING too old. I'm sure we've all been there, and I'm starting to FEEL old lately.

Should I specify in the OP?

I don't know about that. I mean, some of us are only thirteen (This forum's minimum age requirement, some probably younger.), so they may not have that feeling yet. Although I have found myself griping about how games "Just aren't as much fun as they were when I was younger."

I've felt old ever since I could remember. It's normal for people ... who are young and play a lot of video games (because people who play video games (specifically online games) are generally more mature than their friends who don't).

I agree with what you say about people in our age group. Wholeheartedly, actually.

I'm 40 and am into my gaming more than ever. A few weeks ago I was watching the BBC news channel, when it mentioned that the average age of gamers in the UK was 33 (I think it was 33 but definately early 30s).

I do, too. Miss the old games that is. I had a few of the King's Quest games for the computer when I was little and I used to play those with my mom. She introduced me to video games on consoles through Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES, so we used to do THAT together, too. When the N64 came out that added a whole new variety to our gaming. She still watches me play things sometimes, but things aren't as... cute, or the storylines aren't as developed as I feel they used to be.

I swear I'll die a little the day my N64 breaks and I can't play all the games that I consider classics anymore.

What gets me is when people talk about gaming as if it were something new. When I pointed out this factlet that the average gamer is mid '30s to someone who thought otherwise, he nearly blew a gasket. It was as amusing to watch as it was bizarre.

I went through that stage when I was a senior in high school. I thought I was too old, but then after the school year ended I picked them right up again. Same thing happens every year. I go to school and I don't play video games that often, but then when break hits, I am right back on them after I get home from work. I think nostalgia has a lot to do with it but what the article didn't state was that video games might become the lesser priority when you start getting really busy, therefore making it seem like you are becoming to old for them.

That's a very silly thing to get riled up about. O_o;;

It seems somewhat obvious to me that the average gamer is about 30. As the video game industry progresses to become better and better in some ways, and roller-coasters up and down in others, gamers who grew up with it from the beginning would naturally want to stick around and see what happens, I'm sure. I know that I was hooked at age 5 with the NES and computer games, and absolutely floored with the games that Nintendo and Sony were producing for their platforms in the 90's and early 2000's.
