Do you have to do all the main quest line quests to finish?

I am a newbie and have a question. I have about 100 hours on my first charcater. I have been doing side quests and roaming the countryside mainly. I think the main reason I have not continued the main quest is that the next one on the list is diplimatic immunity and I have no interest in sneaking around with Delphine. I have a good level 30 that I am serious about playing the character. He is a tank with Orc Armor maxed out and a two handed warhammer that crushes everything (enchanting and shouts are the only "magic" I use). Please tell me that I do not have to steal, sneak or murder everything to finish the main quest.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. You never have to finish or even start the main quest. I played a Thief/Assassin to 39 before ever Speaking to Alvor...

You can't choose to skip any quests, although one is only available if you haven't completed the Civil War.

As for Diplimatic Immunity, I won't go into detail but I did go through this as a tank and it didn't require getting out of character.

You can handle Diplomatic Immunity head on or from the shadows. You can do it with no deaths, or everyone's deaths. You can leave some alive, you can leave none alive.

You do not sneak to get in the place, the game provides a mechanism for that.
