Do you level up the easy or hard way, or both?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:39 am

Originally, on a previous character of mine, when given the chance, i would buy those level ups for certain skills...if i had the money. Though now with my recant character, i have decided not to do that. If you think about it, its more challenging to not buy skills because you have to work for them yourself, and also gives you more playing time.

What do you do?

I made training 3x more expensive but I can train 50 times per level. I am level 49 and I only have one skill maxed. It gets so unbelievably expensive when you pay 10k for one point increase. The set up fixes the overabundance of gold you have at higher levels.

I usually only level up if it's cheap enough, or if it's necessary, like one handed when Im a low leve, otherwise Im not fighting anything but foxes for a cpl days, an that dont cut it lol. I try to raise the skills I use frequently on my own as much as possible, but I won't pass up a good bargain to train if it comes to me.

I actually don't start enjoying the game until I have built my character anyway. Be that from training myself or paying for it.

Build...then play.

In the past I've been guilty of buying every Iron Ingot and Leather Strip from each Blacksmith when I passed through, so that I eventually had like 300? then I'd just power-level smithing with the Warrior Stone + Well-rested on a character who wasn't a smith just for those extra perk points. Blasphemy!

I guess the only skills I′d invest my money into would be pickpocket and sneak, since I′m not using them and it would be quite annoying to raise them by training.

Most of the time, I level skills naturally so I can get better at them but for things like pickpocket I feel it's easier just to buy the training.

I used to be pretty nerdy about it and always bought skill levels from trainers with Morrowind and Oblivion. All skill books were like trophies.

With Skyrim it is different. I often forget about it and cannot be bothered taking lessons. I still do like to find skill books.

Frankly, Bethesda can dump the trainers from their next game. Or make the game harder. Both however does not make a lot of sense to me.

It's pretty easy to level most skills in Skyrim in anycase, so I don't bother with buying skills. The only exception would be my light armour skill for my stealth build, difficult to level up when most enemies can't see you.

I train with trainers from time to time, but mostly I do it myself.

Although I do both (personal preference is to minimize use of trainers), I think either way is hard-earned. Money doesn't grow on trees, even in Skyrim. To have money for training is to have done some amount of work in the game.

Train myself in everything except Pickpocket and Speechcraft. Everything else is pretty easy to level to 80. Though I do find the nearest trainer if I'm waiting to get a perk for a certain skill.

I just like to play the game.
What happens, happens; regardless of the speed of which I level.

I've never been big on paying for skill training in TES, but this time around with the perks, I find it downright irritating to use a weapon or armor I haven't trained with. So I have Farkas, Vilkas and Njada train me occasionally.

Oddly, I never had trouble training speechcraft (for the first time EVAR in this series!). It ended up being one of my main skills. Pickpocket is another matter; that one, I'd pay to train.

I downloaded a mod that made skill increases 3x slower...

I am playing for the long haul.

Also, since the CK is out, I will be restarting a few hundred more times so I can incorporate new, amazing mods I find into my game... what time I have to play, since 90% of my game time is spent checking things I'm working on with the CK.
