'You must kill Paarthurnax' - out of character?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but does anyone else find it out of character that the Blades demand that you kill Paarthurnax?

Supposedly they are there to protect and support the Dragonborn, and then suddenly they demand that you murder the being that allowed the humans to banish Alduin, made sure the greybeards would not abuse their power and, finally, told the Dovakhiin how he could learn the 'Dragonrend' shout. What is more, the blades are not exactly 'clean' either - the missions they send the Dragonborn on are likely to result in many people's deaths. Yes, the Falmer and their servants tend to attack the PC but then again he IS trespassing.

I would like an update that allows you to persuade the blades that it is better to let Paarthurnax live. It should be possible to achieve this by modding the game, but the disadvantage of that would be that we would not have the original voice actors to give the appropriate replies.

they are dragonslayers, just a little fanatic ones

and "the Blades" are two people, so it doesn't represent the Blades in total

True - but unless you persuade your own followers to join the blades they're the only two in the game, aren't they? What is more, if they don't support the Dragonborn, what is their purpose?

I wont send anyone to them.
I've seen too many closed minded fanatics in real life to not see such in a game.

Changing one's path like Paarthurnax did is what most major human faiths are about.
Not an eye for an eye.

Agreed. In this game the Blades are a nasty bunch, really - which is a shame as I liked them as a faction in Oblivion and they were sort of OK in Morrowind.

There the more action type kick ass and take names.... the grey beards just think and meditate about actions and words of power. Its just like the civil war need to pick a side to fight for and with. And if you think about grey beards have 4+ a dragon.

To me i thought about this Paarthurnax was Alduin Lt in the war and admits he was never strong enough to take on Alduin. Plus he killed tons during the war.And we all the other dragons were killed off he hid behind the grey beards teaching them the language of the dragons for his protection. He a power in the shadows always looking for the next way to gain power. Sure for the last 200 years he been hiding and meditating on words of power but for what? Is it to gain more strength since he never had enough to defeat Alduin and take over the dragons or was to be honest?

in my mind he just waiting for you to kill Alduin and take over the training the dragonborn to help control his power. He a controller always trying to control the most powerful being or group at the time. With Alduin gone how long before he goes after the control of the dragons....
