Do you think combining two crafting schools is overpowered?

Topic.

I know a lot of people use only one or even none and I'm starting to see what they're saying. I have smithing and enchanting at around 70 and on master difficulty I kill most things quite easily and at 100+ hours I fear my much loved character's game is nearly ruined.

How do you all feel and what do you use? Please discuss, I'm curious.

I only use one crafting skill at most. Sometimes none at all it just makes the game too easy and cheap since none of the npcs have upgraded weapons, etc.

I have smithing at 100 and Alchemy at 70-ish, and it's no biggie. I mainly went for 100 smithing so I could get some sixy dragon scale armor.

Yes. I only use one. Though since i have plenty of armor mods that i have to make myself, i just don't improve equipment if i also use alchemy or enchanting.

Still looking for that masochistic diffculty rebalance mod... :hehe:

Yeah, I think it's overpowered, in my experience. On the bright side, if you use one crafting skill or none, you're saving perks that can further help customize your character. :vaultboy:

Edit: 1,001 posts! Yay me! Missed my milestone, though D:

I use smithing, but only to create, not improve.

I don't do much crafting. Usually only smithing. I've never bother with alchemy and I only use enchanting to make unique items. I can see how it could be over powered though and really take the fun out of the game after a short time.

Yes I believe it's overpowered.I have smithing and enchanting on my Nord Vampire Berserker. Her armor is all smithed to legendary however, none of it is enchanted.Only her weapon Wuuthrad is enchanted with Absorb Health( It cannot be improved with smithing).I used enchantment to pay for all my houses with two million septims left over in case I need to buy myself an island.

I've gone through this too. Building up to an OP state is very fun, but for me the fun kinda stops when I finish a build. But many people enjoy playing with superstrong weapons and armor. There are even some people who play to level 81. It's not what I would do, but people have different preferences.

I noticed that I can stick with the character longer if gimp myself by using weaker weapon and armor, or turning up the difficulty, Or add a new skill to the character, but usually I can't last much past level 50. I've gone to level 70 with one character. Nowadays, I just start a new character when I feel I'm done, and exploring different playing styles.

It to one crafting school. Whichever makes the most sense for that character. I also may NOT perk said tree...just use the skill

I Honestly don't get how anything can be overpowered in a single player game or why people even care, what fun is gaining levels and experience if you can't become godly in the end? Im not saying the game should be easy as pie but the problem isn't the skills, powers and ability's themselves, the problem is the lack of effort and time it takes to get those skills and ability's, the fact that they gives us options and importunity's to make the game easier for our selves and the exploits they they leave unpatched. If you worked for it you should be able to have that godly power in the end, thats what makes it worth while

Yes, when you comebine them. If you use enchanting to fortify alchemy or smithing, or alchemy to fortify enchanting or smithing, it becomes over powered, if you use only the perks though, i think its pretty fair. dont use smithing much, mainly alchemy and enchanting, it really only becomes overpowered when you combine the two as ive said.

an easy game is a boring game, but yes, I agree, if you put the work into gaining the skills and levels, then you deserve the reward of becoming all powerful, sometimes that just makes the game dull though, so self limitations or some other restrictions may be put in order to keep the game fresh, fun, and challenging.

on another note, I actually think alchemy is the skill that has the most potential to become overpowered, even without exploits

Depend on how you use it, but baseline is that combining two or three crafting types will have the potential to make you incredibly overpowered. It doesn't mean you have to use them in a way that makes it overpowered though. Personally I prefer to limit my characters to one crafting type or only have some low-end perks in two of them.

I use all three skills, but I only allow myself to put perks into one. That seems to be the best way to keep myself in check and not become overpowered. To be honest just getting one of the skills up to 100 and perked out can make a pretty powerful character.

Getting to 100 in both smithing and enchantment can make for a very powerful set of enchanted gear, however using the alchemy tree seems to be where the OP bull [censored] comes into play. Alchemy needed the nerf not smithing.

I just stick to perking one crafting tree per character to keep things fun and in check.

I learned a long time ago, back in the Daggerfall/Battlespire days, that I have to build the character to give me the challenges I want. If I want an uber character that can sneeze and clear a room, then I build that. If I want a character that has challenges in combat, I build that. Crafting can help me create either type of character, but crafting has to be used with restraint if you don't want an uber character.

All my skills are at 100 but I don't put perks in em. I don't craft or make myself armor or weapons but I just play on a lower difficulty which seems like a nice balance.

Playing on adept with no overpowered items makes for reasonably fair fights at level 81.

Its very over powered! I spent time and got smithing, enchanting and alchemy to 100 and put all the relevant perks into each then used each one to boost the others. I now have a super powerful 1 handed, legendary deadric sword, that has two superpowerful enchantments (fire damage and fiery soul trap), combine with high level 1 handed potion i can kill anything in a few hits on master difficulty. I tend not to use the 'epic' gear i created as there's no challenge but it was fun to spend time planning and creating them.

I try looking at it how its logical.
For example; My Nord "pure warrior" (None spell user). Is he/she most likely to have even enchanting leveled one point? No he/she could obviously not understand the advanced nature or enchanting items but maybe be able to smith his/her own weaponry (Not legendary cause he/she is NOT the best blacksmith in the galaxy)

Would my Wood Elf ranger/skirmisher have enchanting or blacksmithing? Most likely not but perhaps alchemy so he/she can make cures and potions of things she finds in the wilderness.

While my assasin might have a higher magical skill + Alchemy? :)

But maybe this is just me..
