Do you use shields?

Post » Mon Jul 09, 2012 1:07 am

I personally hate them for the single fact that in most of the killmoves they keep clipping through everything, it bugs me a lot. They're usable with axes or maces, but swords are my favorite kind of weapon, so I end up not using shields, even though I want it.

Solutions:
  • Fix the 3rd person killmoves
  • Add a 3rd person killmove toggle
  • Disable some killmoves (the ones where you grab someone) when using a shield
What do you think? Are you satisfied with shields in Skyrim?

Actually I have 4 characters, but never used or even tried to equip shield. Tried to block with 2H weapons, but was waste of stamina and perks. It was better to spend then stamina on power attacks.

I use them with characters that would use Shields.

No, I'm not. Every time I raise my shield arrows still go through it. And what's the freakking point of that perk that lets you deflect arrows? Why, because before that perk a shield is made of paper? Jesus...

I have never used a shield for more than a few times. I hate heavy armor types of playstyles and have never liked shields.

Woah, we got a hardcoe role-player here!

To answer the OP, about 20% of my chaw er use them, but most of my favourites use shields, they require the most thought as every other playstyle is just holding down a button.

I have never made a sword n board, and I don't plan to. It just seems so boring, IMHO.

The shield charge is awesome. I love running into a bear and watching him fly 20 feet away then stroll up to him and slice him up.

The shield bash is really well done but you do need a lot of stamina if you plan to fight more than 10 seconds.

I've never used a shield in any of the Elder Scrolls games.

Never used a helm either.

Never really saw the value of shields, especially when the game allows you to dual wield.

My rogues and mages have no use for shields and my warriors' fighting style is best described as 'hit it until it stops moving'. Working shield bashes and charges into the equation requires a level of coordination I simply don't have. xD

I was surprised how much fun they were to use when I first started using them. They really make combat feel a little bit more dynamic than just two guys taking turns wailing on each other like Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots.

I didn't initially use them but I do a lot, ever since I found Targe of the Blooded. I thought it looked so awesome that I started using shields with either swords or axes.

The killcam shots where the shield cuts through stuff or whatever doesn't bother me. It's a video game, not reality; I can live with minor glitches/errors like that.

I've only used a shield on two characters. I'm not a big fan of them, I prefer dual-wielding or weapon/spell when it comes to 1H weapons.

I have three characters, a Dunmer spellsword, an Imperial warrior, and a Khajiit thief/mage type. Never gotten around to a shield-user as of yet. My Khajiit's also the first character I've created who even tries to use archery.

I love shields, they're really well done. It seems like they improve shields a little bit more with each game. Which i guess is how it should be, but with so many other areas going backwards it's nice to see.
