Your Character's Voice

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:01 pm

When playing, do you give your character a voice?

For instance, I recently started giving my Bosmer Sneak-Thief a Cockney-English accent... I'm only glad other people are not in the room when I am doing it.

What about you? Or do you prefer to hear the words in your head?

Talking to your computer is a bad sign.

I talk to my computer at times. I might curse when I die. "I said, cast Fast Healing *bleep* it!" Find a boss chest with loot I dont like "Worthless crap." I do something really cool "Oh, that was epic."

Well yes.... cursing at inanimate objects I do all the time but not narrating or voicing my characters voice. If it leaves room to be said by my character I'll think what they said. If I started saying what I though in a female Khajiit accent my wife would think I'm bonkers.

The only voice my char's have is mine when I am cussing at them for not doing something fast enough, which is really cussing at myself. Or smart @$$ answer's to some of the NPC's, specially the boy in Dragons Reach. Licking boot's... uhuh...not. Won't say what i did say  but my Hubby gave me a funny look.

Spoiler
I was doing the quest where your teacher takes you through Sarthaal and the other students start F'n talking me and I said "shut up, the teacher is talking you dip." and I raced ahead so I could hear him.

No, because I can't imitate voices. But in my head they all have different accents.

I usually imagine them in my head, but sometimes comment on events or during battle.

My Nord has a slick but sometimes bored-sounding voice, while my Altmer is more curious and wondery-sounding.
Meanwhile my Argonian doesn't sound like a chain smoker, but like a silly, high-pitched girl which is ... not an improvement.
My Khajiit sounds a bit Russian.

My character's voice, in my head at least, is stuck to the dragon shouts.

In order to imagine a different accent/inflection I would probably have to do a playthrough the completely avoids the main quest...

I'm really bad at accents so my Imperial thief/smith goes from sounding like Karl Pilkington (Idiot Abroad) to sounding like some random Russian guy. It's actually pretty amazing to hear the seemless transition between the two.

I actually talk out loud to no one, but I'm more commentating on how I'm playing as I do so, rather than voicing my character.

"There's a trap there, I'll avoid it because that's a good sign some enemies are ahead."

"Yup, there's the enemy, I'll take him on and if I need help I'll kite him back to the trap."

"RUN RUN! OH THANK GOD THE TRAP! Phew, he's taken care of. Didn't expect him to be a Master Vampire."

J'rahzir sounds simply like J'rahzir. No need to sound like someone one is not when one is someone he is.

I imagine my own voice for my main character. He's mostly myself. And I talk to my computer in English, because I've Thuumic mod installed for some voice commands. "Horse!...Horse! Here boy. Where did it go?"

I always use Gordon Freeman's voice.

Well, I recently got the PC mod Thuumic Shouter, which allows me to use my headset for Shouting. Unfortunately, the headset broke the following day. I guess it was too epic or something.

I use an English accent so that's what my character get, whenever I feel like replying IRL. It happens too often, really.

Didn't the Oblivion forum use to have a topic about replies given to NPCs? That was a lot of fun.

I do have a voice in my head that plays before I select a dialogue option. My character sounds like Wes Johnson, the voice actor for - among others - Imperial males in Oblivion.

I do give my characters voices, but I imagine them speaking in my head, I don't actually do it out loud.

Well... Sometimes when I'm home alone... I might possibly do it... maybe...
Shhh, don't tell anyone... :ermm:
