Your favorite kind of hat?

Post » Sat Jul 30, 2011 5:13 am

I love hats, but I don't wear them. Rarely have occasion for anything other a beanie, and I look ridiculous in a beanie.

Types I like:

Top
Bowler
Fedoras*
Trilbies*
Pork Pie**
Ushankas*
Flat caps**

All those with stars have been ruined by hipsters. If you're going to wear a formal hat, dress appropriately, otherwise you look like a tosser. And if you have a Ushanka, only wear it when it is ACTUALLY COLD. Instead of Summer you moron.

**Pork Pies are less formal, but there's still a way to dress with one I think, and flat caps aren't really formal at all, but there's a time and place. I'd say rule of thumb is if you have a tee-shirt on, you shouldn't be wearing formal hats, or warm hats.

I get annoyed about hats.

Ah this may not win me any friends in this thread, but i have a strong dislike for hats, i see them as pretentious when put on voluntarily, and oppressive when involuntary, they seem to have a very psychological history that seem to denote class often as well.

If i was grand overlord of the world i would make it illegal for a company to force employees to wear hats with their brand on them, to me it almost looks like "ownership" of human beings and i find that degrading.

Pretentious? To keep the sun off your neck, and the rain out of your hair?

My hat. It's a special hat. One of a kind really, since I've never seen anything like it anywhere else. I looked at the tag to find out who made it, but even they don't seem to have anything like it. Bought it in a random gas station on the road years and years ago, and of all the things I've owned that hat has gotten more random compliments from complete strangers than anything else.

A what ? I havent heared of a hat clled that. Sounds stupid. Pics ?

The sort of thing that Madness and other ska bands (and their fans) would wear back in the day. I suppose I'm surprised that they still seem to be in fashion, though I guess they're back in vogue thanks to fops like Pete Doherty.

This is a hard question as there are so many nice hats.
Fedoras look nice.

I own and love the Ushanka. They are comfy, warm, practical and go quite nicely with a coat.

I've always had a thing for cowboy hats - must be left over from when I had pics of Al Jourgensen on my wall - and have bought and lost many over the years. They always get sat on!

I rarely wear hats, though sometimes sport a simple beanie in winter or a baseball cap in summer. I'm lucky in that hats tend to suit me.

own a fedora -really old one, goes well with my service trench.. own a stetson, a snowy mountain leather hat (the aussie stetson.. sort of) an Ushanka, but it wasn't really cold enough this year for it..
and my usmc wooly cap and boonie hat -the boonie has gone through hell, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere sunny without it.

I would really like http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/store/000479.php, but I would need to have http://www.gentlemansemporium.com/store/vict_mens_03.php And the social calender here on the island isn't quite full enough to warrant it's purchase..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_cap, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_hat and the Ushanka.

The only one that I feel I can wear without looking ridiculous is a Ushanka, which I wear in the winter. My grandpa had a pretty big collection of flat caps but my mom got rid of all but one when he died, and she gave it to me. I'd like to think that I'll be able to pull it off when I'm an old man yelling at kids to get off my lawn, but by the time I'm that age I can only assume we'll all be wearing crazy space clothes and what not.

The only hat I wear regularly is a Chicago Cubs baseball cap.

I wish I could pull off hats, but sadly I cannot... so I don't own even a single one. Bah.

That's pretty much my thing, I love hats, but I'd need the appropriate attire, and I can't afford/don't have occasion for it.

Well, my most prized possession is my flat-brimmed hat. I do also like Ushankas and Top hats though.

I like Ushankas, they look comfy and warm. But I dont think I could wear one. They would attract too much attention.

It's not too bad. I assume most folks do think it's odd, but keep it to themselves. I've had an old teacher stop me at the Walmart because of it, but that's about it. People probably think it's just a weird hairdo.

My favorite hat is an old military cap that my sister gave me when she was in the Airforce back in the late 90s. I've been stretching it for years so that it'll still fit. Don't wear it much though, I'm not really a hat person.
