Alexi Laiho (Lead gutarist of Children of Bodom) for technical skill

He loses all those points due to being an insufferable narcist though. And he's gotta stay away from the damn mic.

http://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Dan_Swan%C3%B6/433, contributed to so many projects and I love the range of his vocal talent.

Ah yes, definitely an underrated musician, much like Roy Z.

Jerry Cantrell would be number one. That guy is just plain awesome.

But otherwise
Kurt Cobain
Billy Corgan
Chris Cornell (hey look, four big grunge era musicians, even if Billy actually wasn't grunge, all with a surname starting with 'C')
Trent Renzor
James Hetfield
Daron Malakian
Dave Grohl

There are a lot of others who stand out as part of their band because they collaborate on their songs (Tool, Radiohead etc), but I think they should be individually listed.

There is a significant lack of female artists being listed here...

We're talking ALL TIME favourites? The artist you would buy an album from no matter what for the rest of your life? That definitely compresses my iTunes library.

My list:

Matthew Good
Corrine Bailey Rae
Adele
Beck

All the rest of the music I really like are "bands" and thus, according to the rules, can't be listed here. ;)
