I tend to play as "good guys", so I like asking the Jarl of Morthal for help. Nearly everybody picks a fight with the drunk, and she's no different, but she does request that nothing bad happen to him. With most of the others, he'll probably end up in a dungeon - or worse. I've always wondered what Maven does, however. You have to be the leader of the Thieves Guild to get her to cause a distraction, but I was never leader before doing that quest.

True that Abrinth, especially what she tells the drunk before her 'prophecy'.

You can get help from Morthals Jarl? I have played this quest three times and never have found any other way to slip out than with the help of the drunken man.

getting other guests to help you relies on having completed some quests before you attend the party. The drunk is (I think) the only guaranteed option.

I thought so too (used him the first time), but the second time (have only done it twice) I managed to do the provoke-Erikur-thing, and I don't think I'd even met him before with that character.
I kind of regret I didn't try Idgrod, though, as I intended. Well, next time, I guess.

Idgrod. Her best side shows up there, the quest at Diplomatic Immunity is the cause for me liking her so much. "Old people get away with everything", heh heh heh. I hope to discover that for myself too later. ^^

I'll see how I'll solve it with my evil character. I intend for him to do a lot of sidequests first and boost his speech skill a lot, so hopefully I'll get all available options there. Maybe minus Maven, since I'm planning to not do the Thieves Guild with him. Too bad though, I'd love to see Maven do her thing.

Oooooh, and I just discovered you can get Ondolemar to cause a disruption at their own party too! Peeerrrrrrrrrrrrfect!
