Your Ideal Fantasy Universe

Post » Mon Dec 05, 2011 6:36 pm

What is your ideal fantasy world? Post apocalyptic wonderland? Swords and magic medieval fantasy? Far future sci-fi? Victorian steampunk?

Describe your world and what you'd want to do in it.

I'd love to spend time in them all, actually. It's constantly changing.

Edit: Oh, wait. Fantasy. Right.

In that case: Midgar from FFVII. :D

Probably a potent mixture of all of the above. Steampunk, fantasy (knights, chivalry, sorcery etc), post-apoc wasteland. Basically the world (or worlds...) the Dark Tower series is based in.

Theological apocalyptic fantasy. Kirkbridian Tamriel comes pretty darn close.

Swords and magic medieval fantasy for me thank you very much :P Most RPG's I play are like that, granted I've played Persona 3 & 4, Fallout 3 and FFX (which is half and half futuristic and olden times style.

I'm a big fan of the whole dystopian cyberpunk metropolis setting.

I would love to see a large open game like Fallout 3, but in a futuristic dystopian cyberpunk metropolis game world instead.

Ever played Shadowrun on the SNES? It's pretty great if you can find a copy (which I recommend you do if you like dystopian cyberpunk).

Either a Blade Runner-esque dystopia or more traditional fantasy with some steampunk elements, à la Final Fantasy IX (though it's technically Mist, not steam).

Final Fantasy IX really takes the cake though, it just nailed everything I like in a fantasy setting:

Good stuff.

Mass Effect universe or Middle Earth.

Either I would be content in. Probably Mass Effect a little more because there are Asaris. :hubbahubba:

I bought mine from Goodwill in almost new condition.

I like dystopian cyberpunk but also like whatever form of universe Star Ocean is in minus the Eternal Sphere part.

High fantasy mixed with a western vibe. Think Stephen King's Midworld and that's exactly what I like, those more high fantasy elements as well.

The Warhammer 40k mythopoeia sounds like a nice place to live though the age of technology era might be more preferable. While Tamriel would't be a bad place if I lived in the city (with plumbing) as a mage overall I prefer [Dystopic] science fiction or something along the lines like Mass Effect.

I prefer the medieval swords-and-magic world.
The Shivering Isles DLC for Oblivion really hit it spot on with my perfect world.

Anything but that awful generic medieval stuff, which is why I can't stand TES.

My favorite in a video game would have to be Post-Apocalyptic, don't know why but I've always liked those types of setting.

If I were to live in one then it would definitely be something like a Mass Effect universe because I've always wanted to explore the galaxy, meet aliens, visit other planets, etc. post-apocalyptic would be cool for the first half hour until I get killed by some raiders, animals, mutants, or mutated animals.

Right... because Morrowind was totally generic medieval wasn't it?

Me too, though some steampunk stuff wouldn't go amiss. I love airships and kooky Victorian science.

Hmm..

Fantasy, definitely. It's too broad to put here just like that, but pretty much what TES would be without zombies, deadra, ghost and such. In addition to a lot less powerful magic.

Chalk up another one for post-apocalyptic, but not the kind you're all thinking.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yokohama_Kaidashi_Kik%C5%8D Where the world has ended and what is left of humanity is in decline, but people quietly accept it and decide to live out their lives in a peaceful world.

I like post-apocalyptic genres where it's not Fallout war. Humanity has ended and rebuilt somewhat, but still slowly declines, and the high technological past is just barely forgotten. Cafe Alpha, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Sora no Woto. Yes, all Japanese things too...but I guess only the Japanese make this sort of fantasy.
