YOUR Ideal Skyrim

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 5:57 am

A lot of people have been posting about how much they dislike the game, or what is bad about it. So what would you change to make the game better? I would personally do 5 things:
1. Instead of choosing Stamina, Magicka, or Health when leveling up, the player would put 3 points into any of Strength, Endurance, Agility, Speed, Intelligence, or Willpower, which would do what they did in Oblivion, except Strength would affect the damage for all weapons, including Archery, and Agility would affect the speed you swing your weapon, raise your shield, and draw your bow.

2. Athletics would make a return under the Thief, which would include both jumping and running, and would have such perks as rolling during combat. Unarmored would make a reappearance under Magic, and Medium Armor under Combat.

3. Greatly reduced level scaling, not quite at Morrowind's level, but close. The enemies encountered outside would be leveled with you, but dungeons would only on a small scale level with you.

4. Spears and Crossbows would make a return, with One-Handed and Two-Handed variants of Spears.

5. Spellmaking would make a return, along with greater variety of spells.

Okay then yeah, let's assume I have an incredible epiphany and suddenly know how to magically rework the game:

Spellmaking
Spell variety
Classes, Attributes and all original Skills returned.
Racials restored from svckitude.
Dialog that's actually appropriate to the situation and applicable to your station in relation to the person speaking.

add spellmaking back and that's it, I think everything else in this game is perfect. Believe it or not but games can break with too much complexity.

More body customization.

More densely packed cities.

Bigger cities. Places you could get lost in.

Even more wonder than there was. I'm Greedy! I went through Blackreach with my mouth hanging open.

Stealing from Hackworthy... A little more spell variety would be nice.

Less scrollalicious UI.

Ability to have more favorites and bind those to buttons. Basically I want a healing hands button and a healing button.

I want enchanting to appear on my weapon as etched runes and painted symbols. Not just a glowy effect.

Twenty hour long weekly DLC. :foodndrink:

More political situations.

More of a chance to move beyond "I'm a wandering adventurer" and into a real Thane or guild master role.

Cut scenes.

Real romances.

Daedric choices and quests having more of an impact on the character's life.

Less ability to do everything on a single play through. Choosing one guild should either shut off or make other guilds more difficult to get into.

I want to be a real Bard!

How could I forget! The number one best way to improve the game: THALMOR SYMPATHIZER!

More Epic Dragons.

Enchanting balanced to make it worth bothering with at lower levels and without grand soul gems.

Destruction balanced for more damage at the end-game.

More Necromancy options.

More unique fights. At the moment it's pretty much all either normal spellcaster, normal warrior, or normal archer. I once had a really cool fight with a necromancer that teleported around while summoning loads of draugr, It took me a load of tries to beat. I wish we had more like that.

Dragon priests that don't just back up forever, pelting you with fireballs.

Unique animations for maces and possibly axes. Unique sounds, as well. Odd hearing a *Shing* noise when I should be hearing a *Thud* noise.

High Level Armor that doesn't make you look like a daedric lord.(or make children scream and women cry and grown men huddle in the fetal position muttering about their mother.)

Enchantments multiplied by power strike modifiers. Once you've gotten all the power strike boosts, weapon enchants become very near to useless.

Daedric Lord manifestations, brought about by the
Spoiler
Time Rift atop TOTW
. Endgame content, obviously, potentially dropping upgraded forms of their normal gear(which becomes obsolete once you upgrade smithing a bit too much).

The ability to get epic armor without smithing. If you're not tanky enough, you essentially have no choice but to get smithing and upgrade your armor/build new armor. If i could pay 10,000 gold to upgrade my steel plate to legendary, i would do so without hesitation if it meant i didn't have to get smithing.

Steel Plate in the Heavy Armor category, not the Light Armor category.

1. Branching, varied and plenty dialogue with consequences and interesting options

2. Branching, more interesting and longer (especially factions and guilds) quests and questlines

3. Better character creation and development. Attributes need to be back, preferable improved, there need to be more skills and perks need some variety

4. Bigger cities

5. Spellcreation, more spells and a better balanced magic system

6. Lots of little detail and realism that were removed

To name a few

Yes, spellmaking and perhaps speed attached to stamina . Nothing more.

My number one most wanted change would be 1st person horseback riding, with combat, ingredient picking, and dialog available while on horseback. Give me that and I'm happy(er). Number two would probably general bugfixes, number 3 better skill balancing.

Forward power attack and sprinting attack have decreased turning speed so that it can be dodged.
No, I shouldn't have to invest points into a sneak roll or a block slow motion effect to sidestep a rushing attack.
Because of this, dual wielders must kamikaze or spam potions because avoiding that attack is too difficult.

Pointless debate. It's like asking what everyones color is. In comparison goto a simple Carry weight mod for Skyrim. I recall looking at the comments in one and the modder started off with a +5 per stamina addition and he got a slew of feedback to increase it more while others liked it. That modder now has a +10, +15, +20 and +25 options for carry weight alone just to appease his followers, lol

Dragon priests that don't just back up forever, pelting you with fireballs.

But that sets you up for the easiest exploit kill for a caster or a dragon. You LOS them around an object, recommend a pillar or a tall boulder that you can run in circles around; then you pop around a corner fast enough to hit them with a ranged attack, rinse and repeat, the AI is so stupid they eventually just stand there unable to counter your "tactic". It works no matter what the difficulty level, unless you get one of those glitchy dragons that gets bored of fighting you then flies a mile away and attacks something else instead. In that case I usually just get on my horse and leave. Not worth the trouble of chasing them down.

I'd say spellmaking if I didn't think they were probably going to add it in an expansion and charge $39.99 for it anyway.

Yeah, but when you use only close ranged attacks, it makes for an extremely annoying experience

It's so annoying that if I can't kill them with one to two flurries of attacks, i generally just warcry them and beat on them as they sit still and ward. This makes what should be an epic battle, far less so.

It's much less of a problem when in enclosed spaces, but when you're on top of a mountain, it is extremely annoying if you can't get them to just back off a cliff and solve your problems for you.

As for me it's almost an ideal game, but there are some things I wish they were in the game. Here they are:

1. Spears and crossbows as unique type of weapons with their own mechanics - for more combat variety;

2. More spells - for more interesting playing as mage;

3. Fishing - for roleplay and atmosphere;

4. Ability to dig treasures from the ground - for new game activity like cooking, chopping, mining, etc.;

5. More hero animations (such as drinking, eating, sleeping, etc. like NPCs have) - for more game atmosphere.

In terms of gameplay, I'm happy with Skyrim. I think I like it better than Morrowind, which is huge, considering that I was one of the biggest "Morrowhiners" at the time Oblivion was released. In fact, I still complain about what TESIV did to the Cyrodiil of lore :P.

The only improvements to TESV, to me, could be:

1. Fix the quest bugs.

2. Make the game perform more smoothly on the PC, including:
-Crossfire support
-Make the GPU handle shadows, rather than the CPU
-64-bit .exe
-Less FPS issues in general
-Support for DX11/DX10

3. UI improvements for PC

edit: Oops, I did forget a major gripe: please remove forced 3rd person. I've been avoiding horses because of it.

Not sure if serious.

Seriously, man, if you're that upset, go back to Morrowind  Even when the kit is available, I don't think it's possible to mod Skyrim all the way back to that archaic system.

Should have known better than to enter a complaint thread, though...I suppose I thought this would be a little more productive than "Skyrim should have been Morrowind but prettier" :sadvaultboy:

1-) Actual cities(not town or village alike with at most 10 to 20 people living in) like most of the people pointed out.

2-) Longer stories and better scripting for guilds/factions so players feel progression. All the guild subquests besides Thieves Guild is.. umm; uncreative and repetative(jeez look at imperial quests its all the same).

3-) Better graphics for PC. /me points at witcher 2 graphics.

4-) Spellcreating and Stat system should be back. Its dissappointing to see it being simplified to standard fps lookalikes. In fact, this is the major reason for balance issues regarding skills and perks.

5-) Give the choice to players to level scale or not to.. it cant be hard to implement. Some people would love the feel not knowing that to expect in a dungeon. IMO, thats the feel of dungeon crawling.

6-) Give the choice for random dungeons! Did I ask too much?

Let's see...

I think it'd start with doubling the game world (minimum), in all three axis. As beautiful as the world is, it still feels a bit small at times.

Then I'd increase the city sizes. I'd make them larger in area and in population so that they felt like cities.

I'd overhaul the magic system, increasing the spell count and bringing back spellcrafting.

I'd bring spears back. I mean, honestly, fighting dragons just screams spears and lances to me.

As long as marriage is in, I'd overhaul that, too. It's a joke right now. I'd have you actually have to develop a relation ship. None of this do one quest for someone and they think you're the greatest in the world. Which I guess would include an overhaul of the reputation system, too.

I'd change companions, making them a bit more complex. They're just too simplified in this game.

I'd include a house outside of the major cities. Maybe a mountain fortress you have to quest for.

Not sure if I'd reintroduce medium armor, but I would reintroduce past armor types that are missing, including bonemold, adamantium and mithril.

I'd change the UI to one that is designed for the mouse and keyboard, rather than poorly adapted from from designed for a controller.

I'd fully utilize DX11. All those carvings on the walls and engravings on the armor would look awesome if they actually stood out, rather than being superficial.

There's definitely others, but I can't think of them at the moment.

I really don't think it can be stated enough, because hopefully someone at Bethesda will read it and listen:

A.) Custom Spell Making Needs To Come Back

B.) More Guilds With Longer Storylines

C.) STOP STREAMLINING TES, YOU CAN'T FIX WHAT ISN'T BROKEN!
C1.) More Skills
C2.) More Perks
C3.) Failing one or both, bring back attributes.
