Your impression of RAGE

I finished RAGE today, I thought it was pretty good but that it ended about halfway in the story. I barely got to use the pulse gun. :(

I've got about 9 hours into the game, still only about 1/4 of the way through it, doing every mission, every race, every job, etc...

LOVE this game!!! so well balanced, and you can play at your own pace... they adapted that extremely well into game... do stuff you only want to do. If you want to do only primary stuff to get to the ending, you've got about 8 hours of work, and if you want to do missions, quests, racing, upgrading, etc... your looking at 20 hours+

I just bought the game on steam and i already regret it since steam won't give refunds.

So, i start the game and immediately this long, boring and UNSKIPPABLE cinematic start playing. After it's finally over and i get to walk around, i have to do some [censored] "test" where i'm forced to look up and down. Once i finally get outside, i of course want to save my game to avoid having to do all that [censored] once more, so i press F5 and actually have to wait for several seconds while this spinning [censored] appears on my screen to taunt me for being stupid enough to think this was actually a PC game i bought. This of course happens every time i press F5 in this game.

Moving on; i go down the road and some old man tells me to enter his car, "[censored] him", i think. I know better than to just jump into a strangers car, so i walk away, going uphill. Out of [censored] nowhere, something shoots me and the game reloads. "Okay, fine" i think while walking up to the car and press E to enter. Now my character spends a small [censored] eternity climbing into the car, making me- the player, sit around and do nothing while waiting for his clumsy ass.

Now i'm on the road with this guy i don't know, and don't care to know, listening to his blabbering while i once again do nothing at all-- wait, that's a lie. I actually focused intensely on his stretching metal shoulder plate, wanting to shout out "metal doesn't behave like that!" for the entirety of the ride. Now i find myself in a garage and the first thing that comes to mind is "MY GOD, that is UGLY! did they texture a pipe directly onto the wall?!". Of course that's just graphics, no biggie, right? But the fact that it stands out so much is still bad.

Anyways, i walk into the house and the guy starts talking again, "blah blah blah bandits blah" what interests me though is the shiny gun on the table, WHICH I CANNOT PICK UP! After talking to him four times I'm finally allowed to pick up the gun, and the first thing i want to do is of course shoot the guy, and so i do but absolutely nothing happens, which is just disappointing. Wanting to test my weapon on something, i start shooting at the old worn out windows... WHICH ARE BULLET PROOF?! What the [censored]? 6 years in development and they couldn't make breakable glass? It's not like I'm demanding it to shatter and fall all over the floor, but a small dent would sure be nice. The whole environment feels dead, and so is this game to me.

Oh, i almost forgot to mention how bad the controls are.
Looking around with the mouse feels sluggish, as if hardware acceleration is on, which it probably is. Of course, i can't turn it off because the game hardly has any settings for me to tweak.
Instead of mapping stuff to buttons, you get this stupid little wheel which holds a maximum of four lousy weapons.

RAGE is a very appropriate title for this game, because it is exactly what i do during every single moment of it.

Yep i love this game to, runs smooth as on the ps3, reminds me a lot of borderlands, like how you can do what you want in the missions as well.
To the above poster, so really you dont like a game that helps you get in to it in the beginning, like most games do, why did you get shot? Cause you didnt listen then moan about it?
And what you want a totally destructable world as well, wont that not allow you to do anything as you have just killed or destroyed the main elements?.
Well i like it so each to his own, i think some people just want like an a.r world.

Amazing game. I'm just blown away at the quality! The gun battles are epic. The game balance is perfect. Enemies are hard and you can get overrun, but you can actually fight back properly in this title. So many games just force you to die and load over and over but here you have real balance and that provides real excitement not grind. This is what I expected from Id Software, they have brought their experience with drop dead gorgeous artwork, excellent story and 60fps to make this legendary game. Again the game design is so spot on. There are so many elements tweaked so finely even a very slight difference - could have had a different outcome - however, this is just perfect.

.....and GIBS!.....Ohhh I love gibs......pop rocket is the most awesome fantastic ammo type ever.

IMO a masterpiece from master craftsmen. :tops:

No, i don't. Fallout 1 was ideal; they give you a purpose and a gun, then you're thrown into the world where you have to figure things out for yourself. I HATE tutorial levels, especially when they cannot be skipped.

Also, if there's something i really have to know, they should just inform me through text since reading is a lot faster than all the other methods they use.

why did you get shot? Cause you didnt listen then moan about it?
There was a road and i followed it. Being shot wouldn't bother me nearly as much if the game had faster load/save times. As it is, it's just stealing my time.

And what you want a totally destructable world as well, wont that not allow you to do anything as you have just killed or destroyed the main elements?
I just want glass to not react the exact same way as rocks or metal when being shot. They could for example give glass its own sound effect when hit. Half Life had breakable glass, is it too much to ask that this game released 13 years later maintains the same standard? And don't take this out of context, I'm strictly speaking of glass here.

As for killing quest givers; they could react in some way when they're shot even if they magically survive it, as opposed to just standing there not caring at all.
