Your Top Game Series

Post » Sun Sep 25, 2011 2:14 am

OK, so what I wish to see here is where is TES on your list of your favorite game series and reason why is it there where it is.
And don't place it on first place only because this is TES forum (which is kinda ironical since TES is on my #1 spot)!
Also, you don't need to limit your number of favorites to a certain number.
It can be top 10, top 5, top 3, top 6, top whatever.
You can also write why are other games you listed on that certain place they are.

Also, this is list of game series, not games.
For example, don't say that your favorite game on #1 spot is Silent Hill 2, but Silent Hill (name of the series).
Still, write down you can (if you want to) write down your favorite game in those series next to it.

Here, let me start first!

1 - TES (Morrowind)
2 - Diablo (Diablo 2)
3 - Dungeon Keeper (Dungeon Keeper 1)
4 - Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM 3&5 - simply can't decide)
5 - DotA (still need to see what DotA 2 looks like)

There, those 5 are mine favorites of all time.
There are other games I enjoy playing like Starcraft, Warcraft, WH40k:DoW, Fable, Portal, etc.
But these are five which are closest to my heart.

TES is #1 because it's a game which offers freedom and tries to be a real RPG (one which actually lets you to role play like you want and doesn't force you to be a hero every time) and is only game which is on it's way of becoming a perfect game for me (still needs a lot of work to do, but it's closest one).
And the best part about TES (or at least it used to be) is 1st person!
A game which allows you to live in a fantasy world and allows you to see with ''with your own eyes!''

Diablo is probably a first RPG I ever played and I loved it!
It's true that unlike TES you can't roleplay as some cook, blacksmith, trader, and similar, but it's action, lore, classes, items, skills, enemies and atmosphere are simply awesome and still managed to give me countless hours of fun. ^_^

Dungeon Keeper - It is good to be bad.
'Nuff said!
Only thing that I can add is that it's pitty that Peter Molyneux didn't continue to develop DK series.
That game has so much potential it hurts!

I'm a chess freak, but a chess freak with a wild imagination who sometimes found chess figures simply boring and wanted to make them more colorful... and then I found out about HoMM, exactly what I had in mind and wished for. :)

I really don't know what to say about this game.
I first played it by accident more than 6 years ago and it simply svcked me in like a 1000$ prosttute.
Still, there are two upcoming DotA/MOBA maps coming up which will be a serious competition to DotA and DotA 2.
And that's Blizzard DotA (made for SC2:HotS) and Diablo DotA (made for Diablo 3).

Well, these are my favorite games and reasons behind them.
I made this thread just to see where TES is located on their list, which part of it and why, but also am interested to see what other games people like besides TES. :)

ummmmm, besides Elder Scrolls I can't think of a game series that hasn't let me down profoundly in multiple titles (I'm looking at you, SimCity and The Sims).

Still has nothing to do with Skyrim, so it should be moved to the elder scrolls series discussion, where it would still get moved because it barely has anything to do with Tes, So it will get moved to Community discussion

I love HoMM, especially 3. Used to play it when I was a kid, but it never seems to get old.

And Deus Ex can be considered a series now that it has 2 games: The original and the prequel, both great. There certainly was no sequel, oh no. A lot of freedom, and I like the cyberpunk setting. I still prefer the original slightly.

The Baldur's Gate Series is great too. Or I could just say all Infinity Engine based games. I like BG2 the most.

Assassin's Creed would also be one of my favourites, but I hope Revelations adds enough new stuff (like the difference between AC1 and AC2) because Brotherhood didn't add a whole lot more to the single player experience compared to AC2. So AC2 is my favourite for now.

The Monkey Island series is very entertaining as well, I think number 2 is my favourite.

And Minecraft, because it's Minecraft. :P

I don't see why people so much hate DE:IW, it can actually be quite acceptable filler between DE and DE2 (if taking IWs Renegade- everyone gets killed- ending as real ending)

And Minecraft isn't series yet :nono:

Hard to put them in any order, since it changes quite often for me.

Fallout. - The first two games are rpg classics, Fallout 3 was an interesting change, New Vegas improved upon 3. Tactics was good, and Brotherhood of Steel was terrible.

Wizardry.
TES
Duke Nukem (Forever was terrible, and disappointing in every way)
Soul Calibur
Street Fighter
Capcom VS.
The Legend Of Zelda.
Warcraft. (Not WoW)

Other than that, I can't think of any game series that have been consistently good to me.

1. TES
2. Final Fantasy Tactics
3. Pokemon
4. Half-Life/Portal
5. Starcraft

Going to be brief here.

TES - First time I played Oblivion (yes, I worked backwards), it was love at first sight. LOTR-esque fantasy setting, open world, RPG, incredible lore, best series OF ALL TIME.
Final Fantasy Tactics - The normal FF games are hit-and-miss, but FFT is absolutely the greatest Strategy RPG ever made, particularly War of the Lions (the PSP one). Amazing story, setting and characters, with Shakespearean language.
Pokemon - Fantastically deep game if you play it as a strategy game and not an RPG. Brilliant meta-game.
Half-Life/Portal - Portal is hands-down the best puzzle series ever, and Half-Life has the best pacing of any game ever. The story is fantastic. Put them together cause they are in the same universe (sorry for spoiling it for anybody that may somehow not have played them).
Starcraft - I'm not even very good at it, but it is unbelievably enjoyable. I don't care much about the setting or story, mainly cause I have very high standards when it comes to sci-fi and don't find sci-fi lore interesting unless it's Star Wars. But the meta-game is so beautiful.

Honourable mentions would be:
Marvel vs Capcom
Fallout
Disgaea
Monster Hunter
Ninja Gaiden

Deus Ex. Didn't find Invisible War to be a bad game, though it definitely was not as good as the first or Human Revolution.

Gothic. "Arcania" not included.

Unreal Tournament. Best of the competitive multiplayer shooters.

Brothers in Arms. That new monstrosity that bares the name is not released yet.

Condemned. If you like horror, you should have already played these. Especially the second.

Mass Effect. Both are great. Both had issues that needed to be addressed. Bring on Mass Effect 3.

Legend of Zelda. As long as you don't ask me about Zelda 2, then I have always been very, very happy with this one. Probably my favorite of them all.

Being that Dragon Age: Origins, and Morrowind don't qualify as series in themselves, I will leave them in the "has potential" category.

  • System Shock (System Shock 1&2)
  • Thief (Thief 1&2)
  • Suikoden (Suikoden 1, 2 & 5)
  • The Elder Scrolls (TES2: Daggerfall)
  • Deus Ex (Deus Ex)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock is my favorite series of all time, both games are awesome and have arguably the best video game antagonist ever made; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHODAN. The first game really impressed me back when it was released in 1994 too, showing that a FPSish game could have a deep story and not just be about killing massive hoards of enemies like the Doom games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_(series) are over a decade old, but they are still the best stealth games ever made. There's a 3rd Thief game too, and while decent, it wasn't as good as the first two games. There is a 4th game on the way now, I hope it will be good.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suikoden is easily my favorite JRPG series. 1, 2 and 5 are masterpieces with great stories, great cast of characters and excellent music, all blended into perfection. There is a new Suikoden spin-off on it's way too, but at the moment I'm not really that hopeful, the last Suikoden spin-off (Suikoden Tierkreis for the Nintendo DS) was somewhat poor.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls, nothing needs to be said really. I've spent countless of hours exploring Tamriel in the various games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_Ex_(series), similiar to the System Shock series but usually offer more gameplay options. However, only the first game is truly great, while the second game was a disappointment and the 3rd game is well, quite nice, but not great.

And then, of course, there are other nice series like Broken Sword, Castlevania, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Fallout, FEAR, Gabriel Knight, Hitman, Jedi Knight, Klonoa, Little Big Adventure, Max Payne, Metroid, Monkey Island, No One Lives Forever, Portal, Syberia, The Witcher, Wing Commander and Yakuza, only to mention a few :P
