I've got a 15 minute video that is taking ages to upload, is there any way I can do this in less than an hour?

How big is the file?

How big is the file and what is your upload speed that you pay for from your ISP? I have seen that Youtube will use almost all of my upload speed. (only about 2.5Mbps upload)

What sort of compression did you use? How big is the file? What's the FPS? Resolution? All of these things are taken into consideration.

Saying that it's 15 minutes doesn't really mean anything at all. A 15 minute video of nothing but a black screen could be less than 5 megs while a 15 minute video of 1900x1200 HD Oblivion gameplay could be like..huge.

If you're wireless (ie. laptop), I'd recommend you plug it in to your modem. It's faster and has less chance of failing to upload (happened to me before, had to start all over again .___.)

Downloading 3GB is pretty time consuming... never mind uploading... Why don't you leave the computer on over night?

That's a good idea. I upload under 1 Mbps. So assuming that I'm at a constant upload rate (which never happens) it would take me over an hour. Probably close to 2. Asking to do it in a hour is tough unless you have the awesomes of internet.

I upload videos that are over 1GB in size and it takes about an hour and a half (speedtest.net telling me 24.92Mbps download and 4.27Mbps upload) (Also, my videos are normally .m2ts files, which YouTube accepts but doesn't really like, so it takes longer. An .mp4 file should be a lot quicker). If the video type is something normal (not like m2ts or something like that) you can use Handbrake to compress it. It took a video of mine from about half a gig (maybe just over) to around 200MB with very little loss in quality (granted, it was a Minecraft video, so super high def isn't necessary).

I love using Handbrake to compress videos. (Although Youtube seems to further compress the video and sort of "grays" out the first 10 seconds). But uploading 3GB? I would seriously try compressing that down. Especially if you have ISP bandwidth caps.


Here is what I do to large files.

1) Record with fraps
2) If the video is larger than 4GB it will split itself up into parts. I run them through a render of Adobe Premier
3) Now that the video is a single file, but still pretty large, I render it through Handbrake
4) Handbrake will allow to choose quality settings or wanted file size
5) Uploading a 300MB file is much easier than uploading the source 4GB files from Fraps

Right I rendered as a .MP4 file in Vegas and it uploaded in less than an hour

Your recording is in full-screen, whereas Youtube's player is wide-screen. You'd have to re-record your video in wide-screen.

Part of the letterboxing was possibly done by your video editor, look at any settings regarding letterboxing or aspect resolution.

I think the size limit for a file is only 2GB.
