130 Hour, 13 MB Save File

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 1:01 am

42 Quests completed, Companions Questline finished, 326 locations discovered, 130 dungeons cleared, 15 Shouts unlocked, been everywhere except Solitude and Windhelm.

I'm at Diplomatic Immunity in the MQ, so still early on.

13mb feels about right for what you've described. what do you think it should be?

I've read some people say their save files are 20+ MB?

some people, yeah, but that's quite rare. on the high end, most people give up around 16-17mb.

So mine will be there after the MQ? How do people get it above 20?

I think the jury is still out on what exactly contributes to save file size. Some say it's down to the most minute detail, like even leaving doors open or axes swinging. Most people reaching those sizes are on xbox and PC, I've only seen a few instances of that size on PS3 (including a bizarre 4-hour, level 2 case earlier today).

I don't think anyone could tell you for sure at this time, but I doubt the main quest will contribute another 7mb. my guess would be you did most of the file size damage already, with the exploration, etc.

Deliberate glitching, usually.

Will my LAG get worse then it is now? I'm wondering if visiting Solitude and Windhelm is going to raise my save file significantly?

Yes. After about 30 minutes LAG kicks in, or if I fast travel a lot. Not unplayable, but definitely laggy.

I just did kind of the same. Im at diplomatic immunity too and i just went into the last hold (markarth in my case). It raised it by about 150-200 kbs(Just an estimate. Completed the entire forsworn conspiracy questline before saving so it could be a bit less.) Just turned the big 1-0 but no significant lag as of yet. No crashes either. Tbh i havent had any of the typical rim-lag lag on 1.2 yet. Think this forum might be full of trolls;). I know, its probably coming....... Quick tip. If you are having even the slightest bit of lag try disabling the internet in the xmb. Ive had it disabled this playthrough and its been smooth as butter.

Btw: Dont understand why fast-traveling would exasperate the lag. It seems more logical to me that it would help it. I mean, youre skipping textures the game would have had to load to take you to your destination anyway, right?

alot of fast travelling brings the lag on faster, if your going between citys at least, your loading more and more stuff into the memory and will need a console reset to clear the cache

I do not know what to tell you. Nobody has pinpointed the exact problem. Save file size has not been proven to be the cause of the lag issues. My file size is 13 mb and I have not experienced the lag that others are having. My friend just got the game and his game save file size was just over 5 mb and he started getting very bad frame rate problems. I would just play the way you want to. I do not think you are going to be able to outsmart the problem is nobody knows exactly what the problem is. Hopefully Bethesda is working feverishly to redeem themselves for knowingly releasing a laggy pile of [censored] for the PS3.

Turn off the internet through XMB helps?

Did for me. I had some very small fps drops in riften just after loading it up and i noticed these got shorter in duration after i disabled the internet. I dont know what too say but the game just seems to run smoother. I dont understand completely how the ps3 distributes its ram but if its like the pc you have several background processes that reserve a bit of ram for itself even while playing a game. Severing the connection should have a positive effect. One more placebo/tip while im at it. Use "load" instead of "continue" from the main menu (Magically reduces loading times between zones, seriously anyone else notice this?)

I always use Load instead of Continue. My LAG is more then a "few" frame drops. How do I disable the internet? Can I turn it back on soon enough as I quit out of the game and go back to the XMB?

Yes. Go into the xmb under Settings --> Network settings --> Internet Connection --> Disable

Just turn it back on from the ps-button after you've saved (as it will quit the game).

Yes, if you turn it back on while you are in the game via the ps button. Not important, sorry. Just disable and enable it from the xmb before and after you play skyrim.
Hope it helps.
