2012 Academy Awards Discussion

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 4:55 pm

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older, less cool, or simply because movies are becoming less interesting in general, but the only nominee from the Best Picture list that I've even heard of is War Horse...

The Tree of Life svcked so much. I will be dissapoint if it wins. It had some great visual effects, but that's about it.

I agree. Don't see what anyone could like about it.

Wow, I didn't see a single one of those. But that's okay since I never watch the academy awards anyway.

I've only seen Hugo and War Horse from the Best Picture category. Hugo was good but War Horse deserves to win, IMO. Rango better win Animated Picture, too.

Tintin wasn't even nominated for Best Animated? How's that possible?

BEST DIRECTOR

Alexander Payne, Melancholia

404

Alexander Payne directed The Descendants, not Melancholia (Lars von Trier). Though I would've liked if Melancholia was nominated somewhere, cinematography and actress in leading role certainly deserved a nomination, in my opinion.

Yet again they failed to nominate Andy Serkis for Best Acting. My only interests about the Oscars are now Jonah Hill winning Best Supporting Actor, Rooney Mara winning Best Actress and Rango winning Best Animated.

Congrats to the voices of Esbern (Max von Sydow) and Arngeir (Christopher Plummer) for both being nominated for a Supporting Actor Oscar this morning!

Goes to show how good the voice talent was for this game.

Supporting Actor Oscar, for their work in this game or for the films they recently were in? Anyway, both these actors are living legends; quite normal that they get a little something from the Academy. ;)

Grats on them! Since when did they give Oscars out for video game performances? I don't follow these things. If it's true that's great.

It's for the movies they were in this year...not the game.

They were nominated for roles in movies of 2011, not for thier voices in video games.

LOL new poster makes misleading back pat post as a first post, a Skyrim fan come hell and high water for sure.

Chris Plummer probably doesn't even remember doing an audio rush for some thing or other.

Hahaha. I love how we are all freaking out that they would be nominated for performing in "our" video game. To tell you the truth, I probably could not name the movies they have been in this year. I don't really watch alot of movies or tv. Please fill me in?

Why the odd title? Why didn't they simply translate the original title (The men who hated women)?

Too bad most of the dialogue was terrible. But I guess sounding nice > reading nice.

EDIT: I never actually finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It was Christmas Eve and I decided that it wasn't the time to watch it after the first two [censored] scenes. Still haven't gone back to it; I was expecting a mystery with some sixual abuse commentary. Instead, I got sixual abuse commentary with some mystery. I also just don't find Lisbeth Slander that impressive; she is a social outcast. Big woop, so am I. I have friends that dress just like that so the novelty isn't there either.

2nd EDIT: I'm an idiot. For some reason I thought they added a video game section to the Oscars. Award shows are pointless anyways.

Maybe because that title sounds like a cheap chick flick? :P

These nominations are pretty lousy. Some are okay, but really? Melissa McCarthy for Best Supporting Actress? She was funny, but I would never nominate someone for an award because she had diarrhea in a sink. They totally got the wrong movie for Jessica Chastain; she should've been nominated for The Tree of Life. Oh, and then you've got Kirsten Dunst who was completely snubbed for Melancholia.

Trust me guys, http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1332294-unofficial-best-of-2011-movie-awards-nominations/page__p__20044334#entry20044334 will be much better.

Why isn't Drive nominated for more stuff?
Yeah that pissed me off. Nothing for the film itself other than Best Sound Editing. Nothing for Nicolas Winding Refn, Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, or Albert Brooks. :(

I'm getting so tired of hearing about the Artist, I just hope once the oscars are over people here will finally move on and stop talking about it. Bérénice Bejo is great, though, I'd like to see her win if it meant she'd be cast in more movies.
The Artist is a great movie though!

The Tree of Life svcked so much. I will be dissapoint if it wins. It had some great visual effects, but that's about it.
The Tree of Life is a masterpiece, but it's definitely not for everyone. I doubt it will win, because of that very reason. The main frontrunners appear to be The Descendants, The Artist, and The Help.

I've only seen Hugo and War Horse from the Best Picture category. Hugo was good but War Horse deserves to win, IMO. Rango better win Animated Picture, too.
I didn't like War Horse at all.

Spoiler
The scene where the English and German soldier met in No Man's Land to free the horse was cringe-inducingly dumb. Oh, and the part where the dude in the beginning is blind but KNOWS IN HIS HEART THAT HIS HORSE HAS RETURNED TO HIM. Yuck.

Tintin wasn't even nominated for Best Animated? How's that possible?
Winnie the Pooh was also overlooked. Wonderful film: charming, sweet, and funny. Puss in Boots was okay but definitely not Oscar material.

I was actually posting this list while I was ranting to someone about how Kirsten Dunst was overlooked for Melancholia. Must've mixed them up. My mistake.

I don't even know why Jonah Hill was nominated. He did a solid job, but it was nothing special. They completely ignored Andy Serkis in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Albert Brooks in Drive, Brad Pitt in The Tree of Life, Jeremy Irons in Margin Call, and Ben Kingsley in Hugo.

I liked his performance, I definitely think he held his own against Brad Pitt, but liked you said it wasn't really spectacular. I would just like him to win because it'd be interesting.

I also think that The Ides of March was a pretty overrated movie and I'm glad it wasn't nominated for any of the big 6(acting, director and picture) unlike the Golden Globes. The best parts of the Golden Globes were Ricky Gervais, Peter Dinklage winning and Matt LeBlanc winning. I only watched bits and pieces of it online and I honestly think I'll give the Oscars a miss this year too.
