876 manual saves in 50 hours :D

Post » Sun Dec 05, 2010 6:58 pm

Perhaps I'm being a little neurotic, but I really don't want my game to freeze up and break. I've saved 876 times on my manual saves already, which is about half of my total saves on Fallout 3.

Anyone else saving every five minutes to avoid getting bugged?

Is there a manual save button on PC so you don't have to go onto the pause menu? I'll be getting a new PC for christmas w/ F:NV so It'd be noice to know :3

Wow, and I thought I saved often! o.o
I save alot too, since I don't like relying on autosaves. But I think I only have about 50-60 individual ones ATM.
It's not so much because I worry about something happening to them, but because I like having saves at particular places in the storyline. Mainly so I can easily make different decisions and stuff if I'd ever like to.

Making many manual saves is a habit i've developed after playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC, and i've just never been able to break it, ten hours in one time and i'd made 108 saves :P

I dunno, but I'm also ridiculously fond of Benny, if that's anything to judge my sanity by! Or y'know, the lack thereof.
....Right. Um. I'll shut up now. *shame*

But actually, of all things, Animal Crossing was what taught me to value the existence of multiple saves. :'P

We're familiar with gamesas games and paranoid about not having our save files die? :)

(I'm at 33 hours and save 144. Now, I only have around 20 actual save files.... I overwrite the oldest ones as I go.)

O_o
...
Bugs is one thing, compulsive saving is another.
I save here and there.
But I wouldn't be so worried about "OMYGOSHTHEREARESOMANYBUGS!!!!" that some people posts around here.

I rotate between about 3 to 5 saves, so if there is a major bug I don't lose too much time.

I made about 350 saves in 30 hours of game time. Why? Well, anyone familiar with Bethesda's Gamebryo should know why....

I save often, and manually, because save corruption is too common with the autosave and quicksave feature. I am at about 42 hours, and I have almost 700 saves.

Right about 30 hours and have 175ish saves.

I learned a hard lesson this morning. I get into
Spoiler
the BoS bunker
and
Spoiler
spend forever catching that stupid ass virus
and a whole lot of talking and this and thating. Then I start
Spoiler
looking for the lost Laser Pistol and make the mistake of talking to the guy at night when he's not at his post and now he's stuck doing the running man by some stairs and cannot be talked to.

So an hour and 40 minutes and one annoying sidequest all disappears.

Speaking of saves, why is there a limit ?

First time I see a limit for saves in a game.

It is so strange ...

Not sure, but if you've created 100 individual save files I think you should probably take a step back anyway. I thought it was just 100 saves period at first, but it's 100 individual save files.

I've saved often too. I created a new character and foolishly only had one save, but the reason I had like 4 saves for my first character was because I would save before I did something, then make a new save before an encounter to decide whether I wanted to just try the fight again, or undo my previous actions so I didn't have to fight at all. I have saved about 125 times in about 20 hours of gameplay. That's getting close to half the amount of times I've saved in all my 150+ hours of Oblivion gameplay.

I quick save a whole lot, before any door to unexplored places, before known encounters, every 50 yards... I had a really unstable oblivion game with how many mods I was running. But OP is just ocd about it lol. I hope hes using f5 and not going through the menu, cause thats like hes spending more time saving than actually playing the game!

I always have a slew of save slots. I am not worried so much about the game crashing (as it has only locked up once in one area) but glitches. I have been playing Sand Box games for a long time (Since Daggerfall) and with so many things going on, even on a normally bug free quest line, things can just glitch. Almost every glitch was solved by a prior save reload.

Also, sometimes quests just don't come out the way I want, or I want to explore a different quest path.

I have had a couple saves corrupt in these games and the last thing I ever want is my only viable save to become corrupted. What I do is have about 10 slots I cycle through for a couple of hours. I don't worry about overwriting a save slot a few times. Just 20 or 30 times is when I start to get worried. I can always delete excess saves later on.
