ability to transform into mutant/ghoul

Post » Tue Dec 28, 2010 1:02 pm

So you start off as human. How about during the course of the game by doing a sidequest, if you undergo the mutant treatment with the FEV virus, or get nuked and turn into a ghoul. You get new powers and weaknesses, and people will react different to you.

Sure its a good idea, But i want to be human. And the whole game would have to be able to change 3 times. How would a super mutant fit through an average shop door? etc. It would also mean the game would be too big and only the PS3 and Blue ray enabled PC's could run it.

getting nuked would result in death not ghoulification. Maybe you get hit by an experimental radiation emitting weapon :nuke:

Unless you started the game as a ghoul, and ended the game as a ghoul... I don't see how else this would work. It's definitely not gonna happen in NV, maybe in FO4... but that's a long way away.

Some games use more than one disc.
Also ( may be wrong ) are'nt they always finding new ways to compress data etc,so they can fit more into games?
Just athought :)

I prefer to play as human , & base my charactor on me & what i would do, but i aint everyone......might not be a bad idea though, but aint bothered it aint there anyway to be honest.

Yeah i guess, but using two+ disks means more money put into the disks and packaging. And yeah i like humans too :P

Not to mention a lot of new programming, and having to rewrite a hell of a lot of dialogue. It simply isn't feasible if the game is going to be anywhere near as substantial as we want it to be.

I heard that we will be able to choose a side story for our character during character creation one of which you play as a Chinese dragoon (they were the stealth soldiers in Operation Anchorage) and as the bombs drop you and your squad hide in a bomb shelter and all commit suicide but before you do you hear the bombs have stopped you step out of the bunker look in a puddle and see that you're a ghoul the story will be the same no matter what but this side story I'm guessing takes charisma away by 1 radiation heals you and bigots will treat you very badly other ghouls will treat you very well. But we'll see when it comes out. :D

id like to play a fallout game where you start out or during the beginning of the game before you can start wandering around and doing sidequest you are turned into a ghoul or mutant but i dont know how it would work out in the middle of the game. it would defiantly make some interesting karma decisions.

I read that exact scenario in a thread a few months ago. It was most definitely bogus, if I remember correctly.

i'd like the ability to be a ghoul or Super Mutant, mainly a ghoul with the Cybernetic Perk(looking like the Terminator!) but you wouldnt really have to rewrite the game 2 times over, maybe add some dialogue here and there, but really if the Super mutant automatcally has like 2 intelligence you already have all the dialogue made, just have to add some extra ones as well...

@ man bear pig, you must be joking..

This is a terrible idea and I wont support it one bit.

Don't take it personally, a lot of people have brought up this terrible idea. I think that playing as a variety of races could work in a game like tactics but you can make your whole squad. The main series is for the PC to be human, and human alone.

Well I don't buy that I mean come on....ghouls are people too ya know....
But yeah I wouldn't mind if you could choose at the beginning ghoul/super mutant/human but its not something that I require even in future games. I will still enjoy them playing as my human character. It would be nice for variety and add even more playability. Instead of 3-4 time playing through (good/bad/neutral) you get 6-8 more times if you want it.

Anyway I don't see it happening anytime soon, maybe when the next generation consoles come out and systems/engines are able to handle a lot more data but until then this probably wont happen.

Off topic P.S. Is the guys that made the gamebryo engine making Bethesda a new engine to play with? or are they going a different route altogether? IDtech?

It's not going to happen. It would make to much work for it to be done right. For the people in the game to know you changed into a super mutant or ghoul. Would need new dialogue and chracter reactions for Human: male and female, Ghoul: male and female and Super mutant: male and female. That's 6 times the dialogue and scripting needed.

Then people will complain they can't go back to being human so a cure would be needed >.<.

One day a fallout spin off might be made and you can start the game as a mutant but not become one.

Fallout Tactics has/had online where you could battle as mutants. I had very bad internet when people had servers going for online play. Maybe people could get that going again, covers two things some people want online and playing as a mutant.

i dont see it as 6 times the dialogue, its really only governed by intelligence, which the super mutant lacks, they could really have the same dialogue as any character with low intelligence, not to mention that they are unisix...

Super mutants on the West Coast are not unisix and they are alot smarter then the DC ones. Also if it is apart of the game I want the NPC to see me as a super mutant and mess their pants fearing I will kill them. I don't want to be a super mutant in looks only and have the people in the game to not notice. If I was a ghoul I would want people to shoot me on sight.

This is on the west cost, not the east coast.

West coast mutants are as smart an any human.

Sadly, this to me suggests that the more realistic scenario is Obsidian would never do it...and Bethesda will fall all over themselves to make sure it's in Fallout 4. Ghoulification and cure, FEV-dipping and cure. Just like Vampirism and Lycanthropy in TES.

I am sure Obsidian would never do it. I don't see beth doing it, just to much work. If they did do it it would have to be done really well and no cure. I don't like the idea of becoming a mutant while playing the game but starting the game as one I won't have much of a problem with as long as their is no "find the cure" quest.

Becoming ghoul or super mutant is not something that can just be cured.

Listerman said it best
It's not like vampirism or lycanthropy...it's a genetic mutation, your code has been mishmashed, cooked, baked, zapped, and all kinds of other nonesense. If they ever ever did add the "being a ghoul" concept, that's a one way road, jack. You're not getting your boyish good looks back after that trip through the microwave.
...
I think it would be an interesting playthrough, being a Ghoul, but I don't see it happening for a good long time yet.
