"Activate Bookshelf"

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 8:10 am

Apparently you can activate bookshelves in the game.

I'm assuming this means you can use an inventory-like system to place books on the shelves now instead of having to pick them up and stack them one by one?

that would be awesome if the books stack themself in the shelf after you added them

Where did you see this, in-game?

Yes, but I wasn't playing, so I wasn't able to mess around with it. Just saw the crosshairs fly over a bookshelf and it briefly said, "(X) - Activate bookshelf"

I understand - I'm asking, where in the game did you see this? What area / town / building?

that would be a really cool feature, especially for all the packrats.

It COULD have been a special bookshelf that worked as a doorway to a secret room though. "activating" the bookshelf might just have made it spin and voila! secret room

Most likely a secret room behind the bookshelf... but if not... this would be the best feature added to Skyrim. :D

i did read a preview a while back where someone fought some theive's then read a note talking about "oh yeah the wine's here to" and like he searched and searched but never found it until he looked behind a bookshelf and like it turned out to be a secret passage way.

I don't have a link, but someone was discussing this earlier.

It's confirmed from some not so legal sources that bookcases, weapon racks and shelving units can be activated and you can place the items on them without propping everything up for hours on end.

That would be awesome, as long as the books still show up on the shelf, its the perfect solution to the tedius book placement.

The question is if they are normal containers or if they show what you place in them.

You can only add books to book cases, weapons to weapon racks etc and yes they do show up on the shelf you can even grab them off it if you want like a normal one.

Man you get best of both worlds with this, neater placement and still being able to grab, I don't often say this but this feature has achieved perfection, very nicely done.

Finally maybe I'll actually collect them this game then.

The fact this is in vanilla rather than needing to be modded in is great news. I worked a bit on some weapon rack and bookcase mods for Oblivion, and let me tell you - they weren't pretty. Having them as part of the base game is some of the best news I've heard yet.

As long as my random loots sit nicely on shelves and don't explode like a frag grenade when I stroll past three feet away I'll be happy. Cool to hear about bookshelves. No more "ghostbuster library scenes" in TES hopefully

Agreed. I have absolutely NO complaints with this. This was one of those things that I saw on a PC mod that my roomie had, and I REALLY had my fingers crossed that we'd see it implemented for us console gamers this time around. (PC guys had a solution, so I wasn't so much worried about their convenience.)
