After Crysis 2, original Crysis looks outdated and ugly!

Post » Mon Oct 04, 2010 11:37 pm

So, i finished Crysis 2 and went back playing Crysis 1. I couldn't believe my eyes, but it just looks horrible compared to Crysis 2. Honestly, why someone still says Crysis 1 looks much better. Heavily modded maybe, but vanilla isn't match for Crysis 2. Lightning, shadows and even textures that everyone rants about are better looking. Surely there is lowres textures in Crysis 2 and those looks really ugly, but in original Crysis there is even more lowres textures and the rest isn't so highres. I agree that palmtrees and white sand looks lovely, but technically Crysis 2 is so much better. Especially indoor scenes are superior compared to C1.

Go play Crysis 2 and right after that Crysis 1 and you come in to same conclusion. Crysis 2 looks so much better! Even gameplay in C1 feels clumsy after Crysis 2.

Can't wait dx11!

What in the world are you talking about? You play Crysis in DX9 and on low or something?

This has got to be a **** talk post, I just got done playing the first two and I am totally disappointed with Crysis 2.

Did you play C1 on all LOW? Textures in C2 are awesome if you don't pay attention to them. Console quality straight up.

most of the texture in crysis 2 are half the size and are very noticable and ugly compared to crysis 1.

I PLAY ON ALL MAX SETTING 1080p

He's not kidding you, he just isn't looking for technical details; given that you can't actually see half of crysis 2 as it's covered with lens flare or distorted by motion blur unless you make the effort to look you wont see how ugly it is. Smart tactic from Crytek, it makes it look good at face value, obviously he doesn't appreciate how hard it is to make legitimately good graphics.

After Crysis 2, your mom looks outdated and ugly! But compared to Crysis1, textures are still crap in C2. ONly thing C2 has is lighting to cover up all the crap. Like candycoating a dogturd

C2 looks good because of HDR. Stick the C2 HDR on Crysis and it'll look even better than it does now, it'll also blind you completely, I guess.

Actually have you tried configs or mods for Crysis 1.

By the way, Crysis 1 has FULL TEXTURES and Crysis 2 has 1/2 textures and it's dumbed down. You need glasses. Look at the damaged cars. Horrible texture.

Trust me you're seeing something wrong.

Crysis 2 does have nice colors and features and hdr and etc but Crysis 1 is MADE for pc. This one is a different story. Oh it's Cryengine 3 also. Crysis 1 is just Cryengine 2.

You just have to accept that some people don't appreciate real image quality. I'm talking about the kind of people who don't even know that they're running a resolution that isn't native on their LCD monitor.

I just played through some of the early stages of Crysis today. Overall graphics opinions aside, there can be no argument about the pixel for pixel sharpness and clarity of games like Crysis and STALKER over the smudge fest that is Crysis 2.

I pretty much disagree with everything you said. Physics and draw distance alone makes C2 look weak. Add higher rez textures and DX10 and it looks much better. My opinion anyway. Look for yourself. I took these screens on Very High settings.

Prophets pop marked stubbley face is of a very high quality, imo better than the faces in Crysis 2. Though you do have a point about the suit, I suppose.

I tend to agree with the OP.

I played Crysis + Warhead @ 1920x1080, full details plus the CCC graphics mod pack, and generally prefer the look of the second game. There are some things that are worse in C2, mostly the half-resolution textures and flora, but I think that the overall look of C2 beats C1. In C1, interiors looked downright bad. The lighting wasn't doing it for me until I got the CCC pack, but I'm still more impressed with C2. I honestly think that the flora did a lot for the first game, and that is what really makes it look so impressive. Take that away and it all looks so bare and generic.

EDIT: Also, things like draw distance, etc.: it is not as necessary in C2 as it was in C1. You do not look over a huge expanse, at least from what I've seen so far of the game. So while technically C2 has a shorter draw distance, if the distances are small compared to the first game, and there is not a lot to "draw", the game can hardly be faulted for this.
