No age option in character customization?

I'm wondering if her problem stems from lack of familiarity with facial anatomy. Trying to make a face look the way you think it should can be really counterintuitive.

That is the problem. She was probably envisioning a 'cute' 15 year old anime male that looks girlish. Good luck doing that with the new Bosmer look lol. Skyrim is rugged. In the recent podcast the dev said he wanted to make people and presets from realistic features. So no anime nose for her.

Being stereotypical btw...

I've seen plenty of "young" faces in the presets, so it's possible.

I agree with you. This is a game set in a rugged landscape, so no; none of the characters are going to look like cute shotaro boys/girls in anime and mangas. They'll look as young as a people in a country like Skyrim can get.

If you look at this http://images.uesp.net/6/6b/SR-race-Nord.jpg, you can definitely see a few different ages represented via lined/wrinkled skin. http://images.uesp.net/1/1f/SR-race-Bosmer.jpg the one for Bosmer, which also has varying degrees of wrinkliness.

Maybe he just didn't look in the right section of the character creator or something.

I guess it depends on what you consider young. None of those males looked to be under their late 20's IMO and that is sort of young I guess, but no one looked 18ish. And you know for a lot of players 18 is in the future and already looks on the older side. And for a character who starts base race in all of his stats a experienced grizzled old dude might not look right.

True the fact that you start with no class training at all mean that all the pre-sets should have been 18-25 year olds. What the heck did grandma do for the last 60 years, live under a bed?

Personally I would like my PC to be around 20 years old. So based on the given pre-sets that gives me maybe 2 choices per race. :sadvaultboy:

Again, new presets will be one of the first mods made.

Where everybody looks 12
Honestly whats this rubbish about all the presets looking 50ish
Generally they look to be in their 30-40s IMO

Maybe that's Beth's fault for not making it intuitive, but it seems pretty clear when you look at Gnoviere's post: adjusting laugh lines, wrinkles, and dirt is one way to make your character look older/younger.

Having no wrinkles and no dirt at all should make your character look as young as possible, right? Well it doesn't.

I wonder what age has to do with dirt? Do old people not wash themselves? At least where I live most of them still do.

It may or may not be true, but an extremely reliable source has revealed to me that there isn't an age shifting option anywhere in the customization menu in the beginning of the game.. Source might have missed that option, but that's highly unlikely. Has it been confirmed to not be part of char customization or what..?
There was no age shifting button as such in Oblivion either, but you could make them appear younger by sliding the " complexion " button to the far left hand side of the screen, this altered both the shape and the look of the face completely.Maybe that`s what your friend should be looking for rather than an age shifting button.Bethesda may well have removed the complexion button and replaced it with a new variation though, but I couldn`t say for sure until friday. There has to young looking settings somewhere, as every Bethesda game so far has young looking presets/settings so Skyrim should be no different.

Okay, I'm a little tired of this stereotype. Not everyone wants to have their character a rugged Nord. Not everyone wants to play as a middle aged or elderly person. Some might want to play teens, twenty-something's. Tell me how is wanting an "anime character" somehow "bad", and exactly why so some feel the need to sneer and call anything remotely attractive "anime"? It seems a blanket statement and a little insulting.

I happen to like "pretty" characters, and no I'm not happy with any age "forced" on me - nor should anyone be made to feel inferior or shallow all because they may like "anime" type characters. It's their right and they should have a choice.

I'm hoping there is something on the character creation to improve the skin tone. It was the only complaint I really had with the presets. Most are not my type of character.

So if I want to play someone who is 18-25 I can choose among these: http://i39.tinypic.com/qyxy6h.jpg

Honestly the fact that we start with no training at all in anything would seem to make the default a young person wouldn't ya think?

Guess I'll see tomorrow when I break the speed limit getting home after midnight :P

I have to contend with the console version so no mods for me. <_< Even if I can't quite get what I want...I'm sure I can come close.

The third in the second row looks quite young, to me. Just take out his beard.

Those males looked on the high end of 18-25 and I'm being generous due to the "rugged" landscape. I don't have that many furrows in my complexion and i'm rounding out on 40.

That's the issue I had with the pre-sets. Most of them looked like they were 50+ years old. Heck some of the females looked like they were in their 80's. I can't believe Bethesda thought that most people would want to play a character that old. Honestly, how many are wanting to play a grandma?

I am hoping that changing complexion changes the look of age. That's how it worked in DAO.

I have a grandma and I find this offensive :teehee:

The presets look young enough. And I'm sure you can make them look younger than those. The Bosmer just look like Mer.... That is what a young Mer looks like.

Also, you can just take any of the presets and take away the wrinkles...

Rude. People can play who they want - just as you can.

And to append. I would hope before you chopped his head off, he'd burn your [censored] to a crisp with his fireball. Don't judge by looks.

Ok I've been picking on grandma, so let's look at her closely: http://i42.tinypic.com/25tx7xx.jpg

Seriously, if we can not change the apparence of age, how many people will really use this pre-set as their PC? Honestly, I understand having some variety, but why put something in the game that no one will use? And note that this isn't a bad looking Nord. I think that if she was 40 years younger she may be pretty attractive, but I just would never use her as is.

A rather ignorant post I must say, this is NOT an Anime game.
It's not Final fantasy, Skyrim has a look to it , PERIOD.

Now if you play on PC you can expect mods that let you do things that doesn't at all fit with the world, like having cute anime characters looking like tweens, funny since the game itself is Mature rated 17 and up.

There is no doubt in my mind that some enterprising people with post pictures of young looking abercrombie models and vouge whatever.

You're not meant to play as a child, you're up for execution for f sake.
You're not justin bieber in the game.

Classic example of stereotyping. Again. And who decides what type of character belongs anywhere? I'm not meant to play certain characters? Really? Says who? This is an open world game, plenty of options, and no, generalizations don't apply here.

Where did I say I wanted to play a Justin Bieber? Or a child? Or a model? Where did I state I wanted mods (I play 360 so mods aren't applicable anyway FYI)? And I'm finding it difficult accepting that what YOU say goes. Skyrim has a LOOK to it, therefore I must conform to that LOOK. And grrrr no one better DARE make anything that doesn't FIT <_<

What I stated, and I will state again, is that I like pretty characters. Does pretty = anime? No. Sorry. But thank you for proving my point on the blanket statements.

Who the Heck are you to tell anyone how they are or are not meant to play, although i do not play with anime characters or anything that does not fit with the game or lore i am in no way shape or form in any position to tell anyone how they should or are meant to play a game..it is their game however they decide to play is the right way for them period.
