No age option in character customization?

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 10:28 pm

It may or may not be true, but an extremely reliable source has revealed to me that there isn't an age shifting option anywhere in the customization menu in the beginning of the game.. Source might have missed that option, but that's highly unlikely. Has it been confirmed to not be part of char customization or what..?

Didn't the racial pre-set pics released a while back show different ages? I'm sure I saw old faces in those screens.

There's no aging meter per say however with the right facial feature adjustments you can make you're character look a variety of ages.

I'm sure you can make your character look old, even though there might not be an age slider.

The source speficially got frustrated when failing to make the wood elf look young. It looked old no matter what. Doesn't seem too easy to manually adjust the look to make your charcater appear young.. :/

You can add wrinkles/laughter lines and change the look of the face, rather than picking an age.

If you look at this http://images.uesp.net/6/6b/SR-race-Nord.jpg, you can definitely see a few different ages represented via lined/wrinkled skin. http://images.uesp.net/1/1f/SR-race-Bosmer.jpg the one for Bosmer, which also has varying degrees of wrinkliness.

Maybe he just didn't look in the right section of the character creator or something.

Everyone in Skyrim looks old, because of "the rugged" Bethesda added to each and every race. But! To answer your question, I don't believe there's an age slider in Skyrim.

That's the issue I had with the pre-sets. Most of them looked like they were 50+ years old. Heck some of the females looked like they were in their 80's. I can't believe Bethesda thought that most people would want to play a character that old. Honestly, how many are wanting to play a grandma?

I am hoping that changing complexion changes the look of age. That's how it worked in DAO.

Again, new presets will be one of the first mods made.

Sounds like he wasn't good at using the character creator. Maybe that's Beth's fault for not making it intuitive, but it seems pretty clear when you look at Gnoviere's post: adjusting laugh lines, wrinkles, and dirt is one way to make your character look older/younger.

An age slider would be easier, but it's not like it's not possible to alter the way age looks without one. Just takes more than one step.

How would you make beast races look younger? Can't really see the same features on them as you can in the others.

Then it doesn't really matter does it.

I really hope it is possible to make them look younger without the age slider. I usually try to make my guys look to be around 18 or so, to role play a coming of age kind of thing. If I can't get them to look like that in Skyrim then I am going to be very frustrated.

Definitely no age slider, but there's complexity and I guess many other sliders instead.

Source is a she.

I believe all the wrinkles were at 0, dirt as 0 and laugh lines can't possibly change the look of the character that much. She specifically wanted to make a 'cute bosmer male' and ended up with an old cranky point-ear.

Age slider In Obllivion was lame because it changed the shape of your face. Now you can (hopefully) just add wrinkles and laugh lines in Skyrim without destroying your hard work on the face shape. It's going to be better I assure you. Move along people, nothing to see here.

That doesn't mean it can't be done, it just means that she didnt quite manage it.
I'm sure when the game comes out we'll be seeing loads of young looking characters.

That is the problem. She was probably envisioning a 'cute' 15 year old anime male that looks girlish. Good luck doing that with the new Bosmer look lol. Skyrim is rugged. In the recent podcast the dev said he wanted to make people and presets from realistic features. So no anime nose for her.

Being stereotypical btw...

The source sounds like a moron then.

Have you never seen an eighty year old or something? None of them look that old.

Having no wrinkles and no dirt at all should make your character look as young as possible, right? Well it doesn't.

This is terrible and it's awful and it goes against all existing lore. What, are Bethesda just retconning out the Bosmeri cultural practice of applying moisturizer morning and evening in order to appear youthful and revujenated? I, for one, am cancelling my preorder.
