Aiming bug.

Post » Mon Mar 28, 2011 12:10 am

I am currently experiencing an aiming related bug in first person, and a possible bug in third person. In first person my character's arms and gun will move to different positions, mostly when I'm in sneak mode, but not always. It just seems as if my character is trying to hold the gun over their head or down by their knees for some reason. I can't even see anything but the tip of the barrel when it's so low, and it just looks ridiculous when it's too high. What's really bad is when it goes up just high enough to block my view when aiming. I can't even see what I'm trying to shoot at. In third person, I don't experience the gun moving around, but it seems like the reticule is not in the same place as it was when in first person. It's like it's too far to the left or right (can't remember which) and all of my shots are off unless I compensate. So really, there's no way to avoid this glitch if you use Guns or Energy Weapons, and it's been happening to me since I got the game on release day, so I've been forced to play Unarmed and Melee characters to avoid it. I don't know if these bugs have been reported yet or not, and if they have I apologize.

I get this bug to. Very annoying in combat having your arms move around. I noticed that in 3rd person the sight reticle does go to far to the right.

Not sure about the third person thing, since i just dont play in third person mode, but the weapon position bug in the first person mode is very annoying. I'm having this issue too, and I'm wondering why so few have this bug... Does everyone have this bug and just dont care or is this some rare issue that happens only to a few ppl?

I have finished new vegas on PC, without this issue, so it's only xbox360 related... maybe some specific version? anyone have a clue if it happens on all NTSC-U, PAL, NTSC-J consoles and so on? Or if it's going to be fixed on the next patch? I dont see anything about a fix of this issue comming in the new patch.. only some weapon damage/rate/firepower tweaks, or some quest-related bugs being fixed, but not a word about this specific issue.

Does anyone have some info on that? The game is completely broken for those who have this thing happening...

sorry about my bad english.

i get the gun movin thing aswell.its the bug thats drives me the most crazy.not sure if you guys already know this but i find if you wiggle the right stick left to right or sometimes up and down in 1st person it centres it again.sometimes just keeps doin it again and again but eventually calms down and starts happening less and less until it hardly ever happens but will still do it next time i play it.i also found after installing the game it happened less.hope this helps as i feel your anger at this.
i could just about learn to live with the other bugs but this one makes me wanna strangle someone, preferably someone bethesda

I hope to get some staff answer for this post.

Do the developers know about this glitch? Will it be fixed? When?

Please dont answer something like "were working on fixes for all the problems... bla bla bla". Im only interested on THIS ONE... the one of which this thread is about.

I just cant believe they released the game, then patch 1, patch 2 and patch 3/4 and they were aware of this issue and did nothing to fix it... It's the first kick in the balls that new vegas gives you with 3 or 4 minutes of gameplay... i hope they dont know about this... i just hope... in this case im here to try to get some attention for this issue so they can find out about this and fix it.

Seriously... i hope they dont know about this somehow, because if they knew and just didnt care to fix it, and kept releasing stuff like Brink and buggy PAID dlcs to games that dont have even the main story working, if they screw up skyrim this bad im sure bethesda is going out of business this year.

Im starting to think that we (the players) are the "stevie wonder" of this story for supporting this kind of thing.

Fix this arms above the head bug. I wonder if it's related to the left movement sticking. Sometimes when I'm running around and then stop my character, he very slowly leans to the left, even if i let go of both sticks, very weird. I have to nudge him to the right. Never had this with Fallout 3 on PS3.

I mostly get the aiming bug with Varmit Rifle (no mods and all mods), Weathered 10mm, Lucky and Maria. Always happens in sneak mode and more so when sneaking and walking up or down a hill. Most of the time I have to play in third person cause I sneak all the time. I don't notice this bug using melee or unarmed. So it has to be the iron sights messing up.

i think they did know but didnt care.why would they make the effort to make it better when us daft idiots still keep buying these games.the best thing we could do is boycott the game in future and either force them to make the effort or maybe sell the title to someone who does care about the game quality not just sales.i read somewhere a bethesda spokesman talking about the bugs saying about some of them that they would have had to play for ages to see these bugs.SO WHAT!thats there f***ing job.wish i could get paid to test games lucky b*****ds.plus my experience with the bugs is all the ones from fa3 are in nv and a whole load more.how could they not know after the complaints about fa3.they do and they dont care coz they get our money either way.

i get the left movement aswell but i think its the pad not the game that one.i had this problem for years on ps2 and each time i replaced the pad the new ones the same.ive had this bug whilst gun is holsterd as well.instead of the gun in front of my face a skin coloured gun shape is there.like i said on the other on try wiggling the right stick around and it should right it or at least it does on mine.sometimes it wont happen at all other times it goes mad. :brokencomputer:

My brother had this glitch last night. Had to start a new character but it seems everything is okay now. It's a very odd glitch...

I've had this glitch on multiple playthroughs since day 1... I was playing without any patches, with autosave turned off, and offline until recently, but decided to give patch 4 a try since I thought it was related to the new dlc. So, I downloaded the patch and ... yep, the bug got WORSE. Geez, Obsidian, this has been a problem since day 1.... fix it already! I swore I wasn't going to spend anymore MS points on this game, but was bored with the main quest (since I'm up to the point where I have to side with Caesar on this playthrough and I really hate Caesar... heh!), so I recently bought Dead Money on sale... and in a moment of weakness this week, I bought Honest Hearts. The gun aiming problem is infinitely worse since these dlcs and the patch have been added. Now, not only does my gun yoyo up and down, but it constantly just diappears altogether!!! The weird thing is that I can play another day and it gets better... for awhile. I am currently playing Honest Hearts, which is pretty good, except for this STUPID GLITCH. It's no fun getting massacred because my weapon has gone haywire. I have numerous bugs but this one has to be the MOST annoying.

On top of that, there is an area just south of the 188 Trading Post that freezes my system now and therefore I can't walk there. I have to fast travel around it or restart my xbox and face the same freeze again. Clearing the cache, redownloading the patch... nothing worked.

I have experienced this on multiple play-through's as well but it does not effect aiming for me, it just looks completely ridiculous.

I think its safe to say that it is the most overlooked and most common glitch in fallout: new vegas, at least for Xbox 360 owners.

I am also pretty sure it could be fixed fairly easy by looking into the mesh for 1st person and 3rd person and figure out why the moving animation is conflicting with it.

Maybe they have been trying to find a solution to it for a while but haven't been successful.

It seems to be getting worse the more I play in Honest Hearts. Now dynamite is doing it. I hate this glitch/bug. It always happens in sneak mode. Is the 1.4 patch supposed to fix this or is this part of the next patch. Don't know why PC or PS3 isn't experiencing it.

I get this bug happen every so often. It's easily reset though.

Crouch - uncrouch
Jumping
Changing view from 1P to 3P and back.

Any of those either in combination with each other, or seperately can fix the bug you are experiencing.

Yes I do all the above to fix it but it shouldn't happen in the first place. I mostly stick to third person cause of this glitch. I wonder whats causing it cause it never happened in Fallout 3.

I know your frustration, believe me. It's just another bug in the "Failout3 Engine" (Quoted as to not refer to Fallout 3 as fail), lol. I think Bethesda really needs to recreate the engine itself completely if they plan on releasing another Fallout game.

They are. Fallout 3 and New Vegas use the Oblivion engine. Skyrim uses a new engine so any new fallout games will use the new engine.

Mostly happens to me with Varmint Rifle, Weathered 10mm, 9mm Handgun, Maria and Dynamite. Also sneak mode (crouched) seems to make this bug happen more frequently, especially walking up or down terrain.

Also any news about the next patch. I thought it would be coming out by now, before Old World Blues drops.
