To all PC users: don't believe a word.

There have been threads floating around about the UI behaving poorly on PC. I frankly don't have a clue what they're talking about, it's intuitive, simple, and you can use the mouse for everything! Either they've since patched it or there is something wrong with their computer, because I couldn't be happier.

I can use the mouse for nothing cause there is no mouse pointer. And I can't even bring up the option to disable the retardo Xbox controller. And the game looks like it's straight from Gambryo...'Creation' engine my ass. This is the best example yet of why console hardware is dated as hell. What say you to that?

It may work properly, however it is horrible when using a mouse and keyboard, its FAR from being intuitive (with mouse and keybard), its simple yes (to simple)..

This UI was designed with console controller in mind, and it just svcks with mouse and keyboard.

P.s. the item creation system is pretty cool 8)

Its a little bit console-ish but when you put the important stuff to favorites and map them to number keys its just fine. No reason to cry and moan like some people here.

Just gotta get used to it... just tried it for the first time with about 2 hours of playing and I have to say at first it was awkward because not everything is done with the mouse... now doesn't bother me one bit.

PCGamer put out an article about the failure that is the PC port. But since you aren't noticing any issues, it must be fine.

Visually I don't mind the UI, but it's operation is convoluted for a keyboard/mouse setup, I'm getting used to it slowly, but hopefully we'll get a mod with decent shortcut keys.

I think it is fine. Of course I will eventually use a more PC-friendly UI mod but until then....

you can do so in the gameplay sub options area, its set to active by default and should be deactivated, other wise your curser will behave oddly at times.

The reason I specifically registered was because of the bad UI to see if it was going to get sorted out. So, what does that say about the game? It seems to me Bethesda are so intwined with the xbox360 and the money coming from it (and Microsoft) that they actually don't give a dam about the other platforms. Almost the advertisments of the game have been the xbox360. The Xbox360 is getting content months in advanced the UI is directly a copy paste of the Xbox360's.

So when it comes down to it, like Oblivion, it's up to the pc community to fix the game.... yet again. Bethesda are either lazy or incompetent. Either that or they are making there bread and butter from the xbox360 and just plain old, don't care. Either way man, I payed money for this game, hard earned money, I at least expect a freaking decent PC interface with hot-keys, shortcots and what-not. I mean Jesus, come on. It's a very basic thing to be expected.

Copy that..

I have never played an Xbox or any kind of console game unless you are referring to an atari 2400 or 5200...: missle command and pacman were great!:) From a PC gamer only perspective, the game is amazing! With regard to porting from console, If I switch my settings to ultra, the entire system bogs down... There are great textures to be had but I need a 6970 for that rather than 2 5770's along with a good gpu tweak for skyrim to utilize more video card..Btw, even running on high, everythng blows away anything I have ever seen.. The ultra settings come into play when you choose greater distances at wich objects and landscape are rendered along with a few other items.

Respectfully,

I am loving the game, I do think the PC UI and controls would have benefited from a bit more dedication to make them more suited to kb+m (I've got used to it OK but it could have been better from the off) but I also think the issue has been massively over-inflated - the term "throwing the baby out with the bath water" comes to mind!

Overall the game is fantastic and if I can use it ok (despite being completely cack-handed) then it shouldn't deter anyone from playing what is a great game.

Same here. No crashes and amazing graphics. The music is movielike immersive and even has some seconds long pieces for suspensful tension. Dialogue is very realistic with no sense of being robotic. Perk system is excellent and not overpowering. As for console port complaints all i can say is this is the most detailed Elder Scrolls i have played since ARENA and the so called console ui doesnt seem to hurt anything. Its very intuitive and easy to learn though very different from anything seen before.

The loot system is pure pleasure with so much available to investigate while treasure hunting or doing other loot related activities. I definitely feel rewarded for exploring.

SKYRIM is a total winner and championship rpg. I havent had this much out of the box fun since DAGGERFALL and FALLOUT 3.

No I cannot. The game doesn't let me bring up any menu regarding control options. And the start up menu has no control options. and I've edited the Ini. as well. Didn't work.

The game is broken.

Would you happen to be using a Gamepad instead of Keyboard and Mouse? Also if you are using the Keyboard and Mouse are you using the default key bindings or did you set them yourself? To say that there is nothing wrong with the UI on pc is a flatout falsehood, sure it is manageable (provided you dont change the key bindings) but it is far from ideal for those using keyboard and mouse

Also if you are like me and like to use your own key bindings the UI just becomes a mess, many key bindings dont update and some menus require you to press the original key binding in order for the function to work and some menu functions just stop working altogether, for instance if you change the sheathe weapon key you can no longer drop items on the ground as the key binding no longer works, in order to remove an item from your inventory you need to drop it in a container and even then you still have to press the original key binding to do so. Those complaining about the UI arent just complaining for the sake of complaining and there are a lot of problems that need to be addressed in the next patch, to say that there is nothing wrong with the UI is just wrong.

The control options should be right there on the main menu before actually loading into the game.. I would recommend you head over to the tech support area of the forums and inquire there. I am sure they could give you some advice..

Hope you get it working..

It's not broken for me, it works it's just a terrible way to do a menu system on the PC. Maybe you enjoy clunky console menu's that need to be dumbed down to use with a controller, I and many others do not.

Pretty much. The game itself is awesome.

I do believe some people are reacting way too strongly to this annoyance.

Tips:

If you can't use your mouse, unplug your controller/gamepad. Skyrim dynamically detects these and uses the controller if it's plugged in.

"Favoriting" an item is done by pressing your third person keybind.

BIG ONE: Once an item is favorited, press the favorite button and hover your mouse over an item, then press CTRL+1-8 to hotkey it. Only 8 hotkeys as of now but better than none.

Now something I need help on. What button picks up books? it -says- "E", but I'm an ESDFer and E is forward for me.

Try your newly rebound "use" key. Once you rebind keys though, many options just won't work anymore. The game wasn't designed for a keyboard and mouse.

So that's why the camera kept going at odd angles during dialogue, thank you!, why the hell did the default it on!?

Should just be your activate/use/pickup/talk button.

Everything works perfectly fine for me.

Perhaps it's a little more your hardware and a little less Bethesda.

Main problem is that the interface doesn't update when you change control schemes.

I've Skyrimed for about 3 hours now. Time to call it a night. Skyrim will be waiting for me in the morning... Skyrim will always be there for me now.
