Am I alone in my hatred of dwemer ruins?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 3:35 pm

What i like about them is the mysterious, creepy feel that they have. Maybe moreso in Morrowind with those rusty metallic sounds going off in the backgroud... those always scared me

I love the Dwemer ruins in Skyrim!

I liked the ones in Morrowind, they provided some great contrast to the rest of the world. But they, like most (if not all) other dungeons, were quite narrow. In Skyrim they often consist of huge rooms which are amazing.

The automaton enemies, the shelves with struts and cogs and dwemer ingots, the steam-powered machinery... I love it all!

If anything, Skyrim lacks that alien, elder scrollish feel.
Amen.

I love all the other tilesets, but can't stand the dwemer stuff. It's just too steampunkish, which breaks skyrim's otherwise rather medieval look. I actually avoid going into them whenever possible. Thankfully they're not very numerous.

Hi asgard! Good to see you.

Thet are my favourite locations. Certainly, they suffer from the excessive repetetiveness that plagues the game but no more than other sets of dungeons. As forr SKyrim having a medieval undertone, it's very mild, i'd say. The incongruence between the style of the major cities and the that of the dwemer ruins only helps to break monotony and lend a mysterious note to such alien architecture. Plus, Let's not forget Markarth: It's a city, it's major, it's dwemer.

I think the OP has significantly missed the point of the Dwemer.

I agree with this, the next game needs to be set somewhere like black marsh or elsweyr.

I surely don't dislike them but they aren't my favorite part either. I prefer the barrows and things more unique to Skyrim

I prefer the barrows as well, And I've actually only done one dweller ruin so far ( Mzulft), but I loved it.

I love the steampunkiness of Dwemers, but the ruins themselves gets old fast.

i think you just hate them because they are so immense and grinding. alftand will do that to you. i think the architecture and automatons are really cool but they get exhausting. bthardamz is cool because of the inner district. it looks like it was actually a city once, with lighted alley ways and multiple levels.

i've said it before but i'll say it again. i think a dwemer expansion, where the dwarves are playable and the ruins are populated cities, i'd buy the [censored] out of that.

I am not crazy about dwemer ruins myself. Unless I'm hunting for soul gems the loot is pretty poor also. I also don't like the organic enemies found there very much (let alone the machines).

I guess there are not so much of them that they are a problem. (seems they were everywhere in MW). Speaking of MW I do miss the Daedric ruins. You also think there would be some elven ruins like in OB since the elves lived there once didn't they?

I don't honestly like much of anything about the Dwemer. The only one thing I do find interest in are the Dwemer Centerions. Everything else about them though, meh.

Dwemer ruins are one of my favorite in the entire game. It takes you away from the usual caves or mystical settings of Skyrim and puts you in a rough, grundgy one. Maybe it's because I love Fallout and it's the most similiar, but whatever. :P

I love that atmosphere of the ruins, but for me to only hard thing about them is
navigating through them. Well, at least the one for the elder scrolls quest:)

I love Dwemer ruins, the gold/orange doors, pipes, walkways and machinery. And the intricate designs and use of steam etc.
Since Morrowind and probably before, this has been the Dwemer. I like that there's always a sense of mystery and unknown, like what's gonna happen next lol.

Though in earlier levels the Falmer/Chaurus and dwemer sphere's can be dangerous, trust me the dwemer sphere master thing in Blackreach, shoot the large crossbow at it, you don't wanna fight it!

Well, considering the ruins were built by an ancient, long dead race of masterful engineers that managed to perfect steam-and-soul-powered machinery before some races even had recorded history, I'd say it's well justified that their steampunkish dungeon art style is in the game.

The dwemer ruins are monumental. Stunning and enthralling.
Even the Afflicted one was scary, immersive and cool beyond description.

I would have preferred them to be something else, sure. When talking about Precursors in media, I always fancy Aztec-style architecture the most (like Markarth, and Ilos if you played Mass Effect). Stone, stone, stone. Gives a nice ancient vibe. Bonus points if local plant life has grown over everything.

I'm surprised that so many people are saying they didn't like them. They are my favorite tileset. I wish there were more of the babylonian style statues, and more strange robot devices.

The style of Dwemer ruins has been long established in lore. It wouldn't make much sense to make Dwemer ruins look like Aztec architecture at this point in time.
