On PC and Console? NEVER AGAIN

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 4:24 am

I had a good feeling this would happen. I didnt want to admit it but it did. Crappy console port, again. This is 2011... i bought a card 3 years ago that supported DX11 and i think... ONE game i have ever played utilized it. I now have a GTX 580, $500 card, that doesn't even get utilized all the way.

Consoles have ruined my hobby. Thanks for the sub par software and outdated graphics. I feel deceived. I started up this game and it looked like Oblivion with a player mod tacked on to it. A badly optimized one at that.

My console friends say they don't care about shadows and textures. My buddy who swears his XBox 360 owns computers, doesnt care what the game looks like. And this is why we get sub-par graphics and games in 2011. PC gamers are entrepeneurs, consolers just wanna play it and beat it...

Actually agree...which is why I will think twice about game purchases in the future. Not going to support companies when they do this.

and unfortunately, its gotten worse instead of better, on the same aging console hardware from 5 years ago. When i plugged in my GTX 580 and loaded up Witcher 2, full settings minus Ubersampling, i was amazed and excited. I thought all my games were going to be this breathtaking, especially stuff released almost half a year later, right??

NO!

I've had the time to sit all day at work and regret the first Pre-Order i've ever made. Thats not a good sign...

I still want to play, but will have a hard time enjoying this game while watching the weird shadows fastforward themselves, and odd FPS drops for no apparent reason while my GPU and CPU practically fall asleep...

Fix this please. I can put up with some bad textures and shadows, but make this game USE THE HARDWARE AVAILABLE!

Agree. The game itself seems better than I expected so far but I'm having so many bugs and issues from a bad port on PC. The favorites menu wont equip to right hand at all, the menus in general are really clunky, my mouse doesnt work on all menus, there doesnt seem to be a hotkey system anymore (nvm there is one), the sound is really low, theres a lot of texture tearing and flashing screens and probably much else to come. Extremely buggy and badly ported but the game itself seems better so far than I expected.

EDIT: I just found the hotkey system. Have to assign hotkeys in the favorites menu.

I certainly never buying Bethesda games again for a long while, and if I ever do again, its gonna be waay after its release, I couldn't imagine a game that launched could be this bad glitch-wise.

Batman? Assassins Creed? Deus Ex? All badass games that worked almost 90% of the time at launch. So far Skyrim is working 0% for me.

Just adding one more to the list, not even New Vegas (which had an ocean of bugs) was this effed up. At least you could start playing for several hours before a crash. I wasn't able to go past even the first freaking scene.

Very glad that I am not one of those people that run right out and get a game upon release. Between all the buggyness and Steam I will skip this one even though I was looking forward to it.

Being Bethesda we all should've known better. I can't think of a different game company that has such a bad fame related to bugs and glitches.

Game producers really aren't ever going to try and keep up with the current hardware which is upgraded like every half year it seems. It's very bad business to try and this is not consoles fault. If they were just selling to a PC market, like blizzard, they'll make their specs very forgiving. My little nephew plays starcraft 2 on a 5 year old system with 1 fng core lol. Guess consoles did that one in too.

Also spending 500 dollars on a video card is overkill.

You haven't heard about Kerberos, then. I feel sorry for that company, they made Sword of the Stars, but it took several expansions and numerous patches before it became any good. When the sequel to SotS came out, it wasn't playable at all. You literally could not do anything other than stare at space. It wasn't a port either, it was purely designed for PC. They're a good group of people, though. But that's the thing- good developers and bad developers are just as capable of succeeding and screwing up as anyone.

Point is, Bethesda is not the worst company. They just stopped designing games for the PC ever since Oblivion. And honestly, that may be somewhat influence by TES's vast modding community. There might be a mindset of "if they don't like it, they can mod it" when it comes to the PC userbase. If you want to change that, buy indie games or games from small-scale developing houses like Kerberos (which is now owned by Paradox, a good company) and buy as many copies of the games you like as you can. There are otherwise very few ways to influence the market.

I have to agree with you. The game was designed to run well on 6 year old hardware, consoles.
Shadows and textures are just plain low resolution. I still enjoy the game though.

Maybe TES VI in a few years will make use of current high-end PC hardware :/ ?

It is a sad reality that consoles are holding back progress on the PC. And seing how console gamers are happy with their system and will happily buy high profile games by millions, this is not going to change.

I agree. I wish I could get my money back. If I wanted to play a game that looks like it's from 2006, I would play oblivion. This is a joke.

It really saddens me :(
I mean the simplest thing, implementing a functional UI, and hi-res textures, could have gone a long way to make this game better.

I mean I still love this game, being honest, for such a huge game it looks amazing..but using that as a cop-out is a lame. With a little more focused attention, PC version could be best game ever (in my opinion). I still love it..and personally I have no performance issues or bugs (except one UI bug) so I can't complain..but I expected more. I will still enjoy the game for what it is...and then when mods fix stuff I will be excited.. but it will be bitter sweet knowing PC gaming is dying. Maybe not completely dying, but on a level at which PC games are no longer loved by their creators, and made a superior game.

At least CDPR, aside from the flaws of TW2, didn't skimp on it as PC. It is amazing.

Unless you refer to UI, all that seems to be "held back" are gimmicky graphics features.

I'm having a blast.. all the complaints are overblown. Buy it, enjoy it. Some of the mapping is a bit wacky, but I just use autohotkey to fix it.

The appeal of PC gaming is that you can customize the game entirely to suit your tastes. But these latest ports to PC have taken those abilities away from us. I'd rather have plunked down 200 bucks for an (ugh) Xbox and the (ugh) console copy of this game than have gone through so much trouble getting the game (retail) at 12:01AM JUST to find out us PC gamers got hosed. I guess I have to lay my mouse down forever and get used to controllers again. Sigh.

Sadly it's not the graphics bothering me... It's the [censored] [censored] piece of [censored] UI they "ported" over from the consoles.

Thing is the most frustrating piece of [censored] I've ever played... I mean it's up with, if not rivaling Borderlands, with the most inept piece of [censored] PC UI ever.

Seriously... I enjoy the game when I'm not dikeing around in the menus/interface/etc, but sadly I'm constantly in there. So for all the enjoyment I get an equal amount of [censored] frustration. That's not fun... Games are supposed to be enjoyable, not partially enjoyable and partially vomit inducing.

I mean where's the Character Sheet with all the indepth info about your stats, etc??? I mean to find out if you have a [censored] debuff or buff on you in this game you have to [censored] hassle your way through 3 clicks(rofl ya right mouse never wants to work in the menu) of that [censored] atrocious thing they call a UI.

I'm done with these companies... Only [censored] company left that gives 2 [censored] about PC games still is Blizzard.

So until Diablo 3, none of these [censored] inept Console Porting scumbags are gonna get a dime out of me.

Gimmicky? Nice way to state your opinion as fact there pal, while graphics are not the main reason to like this type of game they still are important especialy when your used to playing other games with a much higher visual standard some are used to,the graphics to me are fine not great not bad just OK...the UI on the other hand is horrible for a PC game.

Skyrim -gimmicky graphics -broken UI = Oblivion?

Why did we buy this?

I would almost rather they took a little time and started over with the UI, rather than fix one little bit at a time and leave it mostly broken.

We were explicitly told we'd get a different UI for the PC, and they totally half-donkeyed it.

CDPR still makes good PC games..UI wasn't great in TW2 but compared to Skyrim....

Sheesh, slightly crappy PC UI and suddenly it's a terrible PC port... You guys obviously haven't played Saints Row 2 or Resident Evil 4 on PC.

So let me get this straight. You spent $500 on a graphics card that FAR surpassed the needs of any game out there, and still far surpases the needs of all but maybe the one or two most demanding games that exist, and your mad that every game doesn't require it?

That just means that card will last you 10 years. You got a really nice superior one, and now you wont need another for a very long time.

I'm one of the few that say the game is a masterpiece as a whole. But you can't ignore the negatives. All the stuff messed up due to consoles can't be overlooked. The UI is flawed. Parts of it work fine for me..but the important parts are messed up bad. The low-res textures are one of the big advantages in a PC game..and we were even told they were there..butt hey aren't

Still enjoying the game immensely..and overall it looks amazing..as long as you don't pay attention to anything close to you :\

"Consoles have ruined my hobby."

If PC gamers wouldnt pirate so rampantly, devs wouldnt have to rely on consoles to make thier money.
