V.A.T.S. and consoles

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:47 pm

First, im a PS3 user and if you like playing on PC,.. more power to you. So lets not turn this into a PC vs console thread please. respect people's veiws.

Im hopeing that they improved V.A.T.S. on consoles cause in FO3 I would sometimes have a hard time selecting the body type im trying to shoot. I would spend an ungodly amount of time to do a head shot. The interviews and threads that I have saw haven't shed any light on this matter. I know they added special moves to melee attacks, but nothing on V.A.T.S. itself. So have anyone know if thay have done anything to fix this issue?

Surely you just hold up on the control stick and it'll select the topmost element for you?

I personally hope that they don't even have VATS in New Vegas. I thought it was a rather cheesy combat system and disabled it in my Fallout 3 game.

Why? VATS has always been in the Fallout Games?

Had the problem both on PC and console, nothing major. Most prevalent with scorpions and weird shaped enemies, and if you had a bad angle, it would be pretty difficult to cycle through to where you wanted to shoot. Didn't mind it that much though.

I've had the problem with creatures - not really on humans. Depends on what angle you're shooting them from and sh*t. so if you press up it'll go to their arm or something weird.

That problem is absolutely not exclusive to consoles.

I tried Fallout 3 a month or so ago again, and gave VATS another shot and I became frustrated that every single time I entered VATS I pushed the anologue stick UP so that it would target the head, but it didn't. So I pushed left to target the arm, then pushed up again, and it didn't work, then I pushed right two times to the next arm and pushed up and it still didn't target the head.
Every single time I entered VATS I had to fiddle around with aiming the body parts to finally aim at the head.
Pissed the living [censored] out of me.
I definitely hope they've fixed this problem.

VATS is an integral part of the game just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be disabled from the game altogether. I personally don't mind using VATS but I prefer to do most of my combat outside of VATS, the system has its pros/cons but it all boils down to this question: Is it not fun to be able to pin-pointedly target body parts and shoot/disable them? :tops:

I know what you mean. Aiming for the head in VATS usually wasn't a problem for me at least.

On the other hand, aiming for your adversary's weapon, limb or body part was sometimes iffy, especially if you were firing from an odd angle and another body part was in front or very close to another target part.

Aiming for an ant's antennae was particularly frustrating even if their antenna were in plain sight because their head and legs usually got in the way...

It probably depends on how twichy you are with the thumb sticks. Sometimes I would have to cycle through a couple times to get the part I wanted. It can be quite sensitive sometimes.

Nope. I saw it on the PC and the 360. It's a non-platform-specific bug.

I'd like to see them go back to the chart from the old games. That'd fix the problem.

To make it work on the new engine, it pops up as a smaller window in the top corner of the screen... You still select your target the same way, but you use the chart in the top of screen to select limbs... Thoughts?

Er, that. I was agreeing with you. ;) "Nope," as in, "nope, it's not platform-specific," like you said.

Xbox360 VATS - I had this regularly - getting a headshot meant, cycling left, right, up... no wait, thats a leg again... ok i'll try down, hey! its aiming for the head this time!

:gun: :nuke:

Direction in VATS didnt make any sense, when confronted with odd shaped targets. But it didnt bother me that much... had too much fun. :tops:

If QA didn't run into this problem in game testing someone should be fired.

I'm sure it was on the bug list and never got prioritized into an actual patch. Those are the types of things that usually get fixed in follow-up releases, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's fixed in NV. As far as firing somebody...nah. These are the kinds of decisions that have to be made. Companies choose not to address certain bugs all the time.
