Any nVidia GTX 560 users out here?

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 8:08 pm

Hey there guys, I'm getting the nVidia GTX 560 for christmas, and I'd like to know, do any of you guys have one? If so, How well does it run?

Here's my current specs:

Intel core i5 750
12GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4650 (And now you know why I am upgrading :P)
450W Power Suppy
Windows 7

For better reference, here's the exact card I am getting:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=555335&CatId=3669

Mathematically, this card is 3 times more powerful than the 4650, but I want feedback from the people who play the game! What can you guys tell me?

You won't regret it, msi 560 gtx ti frozr II, i5 2500k @ 4.5 and 8 gigs of corsair, maxes everything on market at the moment, Skyrim on ultra with mods and tweaks to make it purtier stays locked at about 60 fps aside from when I look at certain cave walls, /facepalm.

You're using a 560ti, correct? How much of a difference is there between 560 and 560ti?

The difference between the 560 and 560ti isn't too great.

I have a 560 here and the game runs smooth as silk for the most part, with only a few minors slowdowns in indoor locations, although it isn't very noticeable.

Achieving ultra settings aren't an issues with either card.

Edit: also, don't forget to tweak the ini settings for that extra graphical edge.

Check the specs to see whether or not your power supply is adequate for that card.

one thing to notice on your Machine Specs above..is the Psu....

Minimum PSU Wattage Requirement: 450 Watt for the new card..

I would think about upping that PSU at the same time as the card..

If the GTX 560 mirrors the pirce / performance the GTX 460 had, it'll be a stellar card for the money. And it should have the 500 series power and heat improvements along with it.

IIRC the GTX 560 Ti has an extra working "CUDA core", as Nvidia calls them, but the GTX 560s tend to be clocked higher. 560 Ti FPS might beat the 560's by a little bit in some GPU bound situation, but generally the same settings will be playable in games.

Anyways, unless you're running at 2560x1600 and/or want to make a ridiculous postprocessing mod chain either should work with Skyrim just fine.

Note that AMD seems to be planning to release some new cards soon and even if you don't want a Radeon, they might manage to drive GeForce prices down somewhat.

I have a 450W Max, 500W Peak power supply rated at 80% and I have had no problems with my GTX 560.

I would stick with the regular 560 rather than the 560 ti for exactly that reason however, especially with the i7 as I have, the 560 uses less power than the 560 ti and puts you in a comfortable operating zone, depending on what else you are running off the power supply of course...

The 560 has been very good so far by the way. Go with MSI Afterburner to push core clock to easy 950, or 975. Some people report as high as 1GHz but 975 is the highest stable I can achieve.

I have 2 GTX 560 TI OC from gigabyte and I get to max pretty much every game with a bit of fps drop in some big games. I get more issues with Skyrim though like: SLI actually as
worst performances than a single GPU, and I can't max SC2. Apart from that they are good cards. It's a cheap card to buy with good performances. If I were you though I would
probably spend the extra cash and get a 570 or a 580 cuz 560 are getting old. And you could buy up to 3 570 or 580 rather than spending extra cash for a newer card in the future. And yeah, I think your power supply
could be to low, not sure though. Sometimes it's worth investing a bit to avoid spending more in the future.

I have GTS450 Zotac with Q9650 (3.0quad), at 1920x1080 almost all high 8xaa 16xaf and fps min/max 30-60 (if I go ultra, which is damned close to high, I get about 22-60 fps)

To the original poster - I'd look into your PSU, if you have only 450watts, chances are your 12v rail is insufficient (my card needed at least 22A, I'm assuming yours is the same, and 450 seems low, I doubt it has 22A, even if it did, I think you'd need at least 500watts to make sure there's no problems).

Look on the side of your PSU (power supply unit, for those who don't know what that means), you'll see info on the voltage, look at the 12V, it should have the min required for that particular card (you'll have to find out), for me, it was 22A (amps).

EDIT: here's a link that gives the minimum for the 560 Ti (probably similar to the 560, but not certain). According to this, it's 30A on the 12V rail. I know NVidia doesn't show that info on their site, but the 12V showing on your power supply makes a difference.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/319846-33-understanding-power-requirements
I know some of this info is complicated :S but this link explains it pretty well. If your PSU doesn't put out sufficient amps, it can causes freezes and crashes. My card needed minimum 500watt PSU (cause the card uses something like 100W, the rest is for the system, 500W is safe to make sure you have more than enough), and I needed at least 22A on the 12V rail (that's the power that goes directly to the card, a separate power cable, mine had 6 pins). I hope this helps, and doesn't seem a little overwhelming.
btw, I may have overcomplicated it :P and I don't know if I fully understand it / explained it. I do hope the info helps.

I have an ASUS gtx560 direct CUII OC to 850 and it's pretty good for the price. Mainly because I have never had to put the fan over 40% on any game and I've never seen the card hit 70 degrees. On Skyrim almost on Ultra (minus shadows) I play with the fan at 35% and I never go over 63 degrees which is important to me. If you want some more power you can get some ti for the same price but I really recommend you the Asus one, the 2 fan model.

*edit* I'm not really sure if a 450W PSu it's enaugh for that card, may be a bit on the limit, i would check on that before getting it.

The 560 is basically a highly overclocked 460 (they use the same chip I think) and power draw is higher than with the 460, iirc. It's a pretty nice card as far as price/performance is considered, though.
However, if OP is unsure about power consumption and not focused on NVidia, a 6870 might be a good alternative.

A GTX 560 has identical specs as a GTX 460 1GB. The GTX 560 is clocked higher at stock (810 Mhz vs 675 Mhz) and has more overclocking headroom. Its slightly more energy efficient. My GTX 460 1GB overclocked to 875 Mhz does pretty well with the game (that's 65 Mhz above a stock GTX 560). I play on Ultra with shadows dropped to High. With a 22" 1680x1050 monitor I usually maintain 60 FPS outdoors and in most indoor locations. In walled towns in varies wildly (as it does for everyone). Anywhere from 25 FPS to 60 FPS depending on if I'm pointing at a large group of NPCs.

Edit: El Zoido makes a good point about the HD 6870 - it will use about 35-40 W less power while gaming while offering the same (or slightly better) performance.

I've had a 560ti for a few months now, love it. Its kind of the 8800gts of this moment. I also upped my power supply to 850 watts when I bought the card. That may have been overkill, but I'm prepared for future power needs. :chaos:

I am running my 560ti with a 850 watt Cosair PS. never skimp on name or size when it comes to a Power supply!!

I ran yesterday (Skyrim) for 15.5 hours straight!! Running 30-45 FPS the entire time. Ultra set in Settings for Game with AA & AF off. using Nvidia Inspector to force...

2x supersampling
8x AA
16x AF

This keeps me at a constant FPS took some serious testing to find a level that kept the card running what it could.

The 560 (non-ti) works great with this game - the wife has one and runs at ultra with shadows knocked down to high, it's very very smooth.

Yeah I think your PSU is on the low end for an i5 and the new video card. I run two 460 in SLI. I am on ultra with a few things on high I would say average 40 to 50 FPS. Even with vertical sync turned off it hardly goes past 60 FPS. I can run Battlefield 3 on ultra and get 70+ FPS with dips down to 50 FPS. Don't expect the world from skyrim with a new video card but it will be a huge improvement over your old card.

Hey guys! I just bought a 730W Power supply from Newegg (Thanks for the heads up! Would have really svcked to have gotten it and then find out it doesn't run :P), here's the supply!

Friend of mine has a 550ti and runs everything on Ultra at 1080, he gets buttery 60 FPS in Markarth(makes me jealous!) but thats more to do with his 8gigs of RAM and better CPU than I have -.-

IMO though with Nvidia cards you want to make sure you have a solid PSU.
