Any special new years celebrations?

Post » Tue Jan 01, 2013 7:34 am

^ that

Me and my family eat some black eyed peas(my grandma says it for luck) and then we sit around a bonfire made with ashes from last years fire and eat either oysters or clams or hotdogs until the new year starts. Some of us go in side and the rest wait around for the sun.

So what do you guys do?

Edit:Also what/if any new years resolutions do you have? (happy now Xurts? ;) )

My family watched Coming to America and the Matrix and lit sparklers in the living room. We don't have TV reception where we live at the moment.

I asked this same question in Andy's New Year's thread. You should also add in the question of everyone's New Year's Resolutions too.

It depends on if there's any parties going on or anything friends or family will be doing. My lovely girlfriend has to work tonight so I'll probably just kick back and watch the Twilight Zone marathon that SyFy airs every year. My mom, brother and myself always use to watch it when we were younger. It's amazing how Twilight Zone was so ahead of it's time. Well it was in my opinion anyway.

Going out the door -now- to have dinner with friends.. and these are people who understand the fine art of food-indulgence like no one..

my diet is on 24 hour lock down, not thinking about it until tomorrow.

Making a forum virgin sacrifice to Vinegar Ra to appease him so he blesses the forum with cookies. Sweet, delicious cookies.

I've usually been out with friends on new years, but I'm too lazy for that this year. I might go out to see the fireworks, but people have been idiots lately and can't even aim a rocket. Too often they are being shot straight at the street, scaring children and advlts (with good reason). People are getting injured every year.

My new year's plans are more a routine than a celebration. I go away...far far away.
My ptsd makes fireworks almost unbearable. So it's best for myself and others if I just become scarce.

That said, I've spent the last few hours organizing and loading some gear. After a hearty lunch I'll head down the road with kayak, fishing and camping gear in tow. I should launch around 1400, paddle hard for 2 hours, and arrive at my quiet spot as dusk nears. After a quick survey for dangerous critters and clearing of ground clutter, I'll construct my shelter and build a fire.

Tonight will be spent deep in the Louisiana marsh, miles and miles away from the nearest human, sipping The Macallan and reading a collection of Neil Peart and Joni Mitchell lyrics. Tomorrow at dawn I'll stalk some redfish and speckled trout, keeping only enough for lunch and dinner, and making sketches of my surroundings. Then, after having enjoyed some of my catch, the rest of the day will be spent painting from the sketches...and enjoying some more of The Macallan. After a good night's rest under the canopy of stars, gear will be reloaded into the kayak and I'll make my way back out. I should be home sometime after noon on Wednesday.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday.

I'll be in bed by 2100. I don't give a damn about the new year. I was hoping the Mayan's were going to.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9KGfgg-d8s

Man, I wish that show was on DVD.

That sounds awesome. If it werent for the impending storm your post makes me wanna load up the ruck sack and Camping stuff and head to my favorite spot at the gorge.

As for what I will be doing tonight its probably going to consist of drinking with friends/family.

My girlfriend's brother is in town, so we're going to the boardwalk (they live in Iowa, so this is super special). Then coming back here to the house to drink beer and champagne and play Cards Against Humanity.

That's good to hear. I wish people some were as sensible as you when it comes to explosives.

The party I was supposed to go to got cancelled last night; the host and his whole family are sick and don't want company.

Now I'm not sure what I am going to do; if everyone re-groups somewhere else I may go but the only place that would happen is even further from me (well over an hour drive).

it's mainly because I'm surrounded by woods and forest fires are frowned upon in modern society.

I might go to a gun range and do some target practice with my .357 and .44 magnums.

That's a shame. I'm surrounded by woods as well, and I'm pretty sure forest fires are shunned upon here as well, yet people are doing it. :wallbash:

If I had to blame alcohol or stupidity, I would probably choose the latter. Only stupid people would believe shooting up fireworks while being severely intoxicated is a jolly good idea.
