I've played my first walkthrough on novice. So did I on my first walkthroughs on fallout 3 & FNV.

Though, my first walkthroughs I mainly use to get to know as much as I can about the stories and questlines going on in the game, and after I feel I know what's going on I start to roleplay.

there have been polls on this. A few people voted that they play on Novice.

I don't play on novice but it seems a fine way to play the game, parasitically if you looking to just enjoy the beautiful environment and explore in a relaxing way.

Apprentice seems to be the least used difficulty level. I guess if someone is going to crank it down from Adept, then you might as well go all the way to novice.

Read a book or watch a movie. A game is game. There has to be some sort of challenge for a game and you the player are an active participant. That's like saying you only play Chess where you can move an infinite number of times before your opponent can. You know you will win every single time. That takes the fun out of it.
The difference there being you can't control the outcome of a book or movie.

why you care so much what level he's playing on? it's his game and playthrough...not yours

Agreed. I am always just happy another person bought the game and will show the devs interest to keep making these games which makes me happy. :)

I couldn't play this game on novice as it wouldn't be enough challange for me. Who am I to tell someone else how they should play. :)

No. It would be boring, and I would feel like I would be lowering myself.

Playing on Adept but when I increase a few more levels I'm gonna try Expert. Did try it early on but was getting killed way too much.

Whatever the stock setting is, that is what I play on. If I want the game to be a challenge, I make a character that provides a challenge. If I want the game to be easy, I make a character that is uber.

I play on pc with the wonky cursor/mouse issues that no patch seems to fix (old pc), so I am on novice with low graphics...still having loads of fun so I must be doing something right!

Try SkyUI fixes those issues....

My sister played oblivon for over 600 hours with a million wood elf male characters, always on the easiest difficulty. In Skyrim, she started doing that as well but recently turned the difficulty up to adept. No idea why she's done so with Skyrim when she never did it with oblivion.

I gotta say, the level of hubris here astounding. If some of these people were the forefathers of the USA, I shudder to think how we would have turned out!

People forget that they don't control what others find enjoyable. I find that disturbing.

besides the few very adolescent posters, exactly, WHO has made the claim you make, whatever, that may be??

i'll assume you mean those playing on high difficulty trying to put down those on lower ones.

or, do you mean low difficulty players constantly spewing that the high level players are putting them down?

merely broaching this subject and asking the why's to both camps isn't wrong. in fact, it can be enlightening.

I play on a setting way past master ( pc player here )

As with all my games i max out the setting to the hardest possible it can go. and i honestly have no problem with it ever. sure on some games there are hard parts, but i don't wimp out and lower it, i force myself to get past it...if i get too pissed off i'll stop and come back to the game later and beat it instantly pretty much.

Games now a days are way to easy and boring so there is a need to max it out ( even some games are a joke on the max setting sadly )

I have never understood why somebody would play a game on it's lowest setting, i always thought [censored] or just a very slow minded person, or somebody not wanting to challenge themselves....what i always thought anyways.

I couldn't get out of Helgen.... didn't here the comment about the roof, and said to myself I an't jumpin' out of a perfectly safe tower..... So that's how bad I was. So yeah - I was playing on novice.

lol I had the same thought my first playthrough, and I did hear the guy say something about the roof, but I though to myself "you must be kidding"! Started looking for another way out, but there was none, and I think my hands were still tied at that point. Eventually I took the leap of faith and here I am.

RE the OP. I usually play on Adept or Expert, depending on my mood and the character. Never really tried novice. Each to his own though. Nothing wrong with playing novice if you just want to relax and not worry about getting killed or anything.

I can't imagine how boring that would be (for me), but if you enjoy it, great.

I like the challenge of master, playing on novice would be way to easy. I've managed to make my pure mage character work well on master, people say destruction is so useless at high levels, you just need to work out how to use it properly. That ISN'T dual cast spamming with 100% cost reduction.

I usually play adept for the first few hours then increase the difficulty to expert when it gets too easy. Never played on novice though.

It depends on the character. Some character types are so overpowered, that you have to play master to get a challenge. Some character types are balanced enough that you can play on adept and still be challenged.

In all seriousness, I'm playing a balanced character (no enchants) on Adept and I am finding it a moderate challenge.
