Anyone else does hate pillar-puzzles in Skyrim?

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 3:01 am

I wouldn't consider them to be puzzles because they aren't very puzzling. Pretty much one-note with the puzzle creativity from bethesda. "Let's tell them they have to rotate objects to solve puzzles but don't tell them there's only one kind of puzzle with rotating objects in the inventory". Also there's a certain point where doing the same puzzles become just another way to make me play longer rather than get anything out of it.

No idea how the claw-locks work, so I just have to guess and test
Did you do the quest where you have to retrieve the golden claw? This is part of the MQ, but you can also get it if you speak to the trader in Riverwood.

Anyway, if you read Arvel's journal, you'll find a hint about the locks.

There not really puzzles. The answer is right there. Also there is a marker on the pillar saying wich side is the important side which you have to make correct.

The claws are the easiest, since you don't have to look anywhere but at the claw for the answer...

They are too damn easy. Either make them puzzling or don't waste my time.

^ That.

These "Rotate the stones to the correct combo" are not puzzles, they are a time-sink and belong in the past. Example: I enter a room with 4 stones in it. The first thing that comes to mind is "click 2^4 times" and go click 1,test,1,2,test,1,2,3,test,1,2,3,4,test and repeat until solved = That is not a puzzle.

A puzzle makes you use your head and think creatively/logically. Remember the door on level 2 in DungeonMaster?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM661IxflGg Watch from 7:55 to 8:10.

You can argue the same about that puzzle, but the fact is that in the video, it is solved differently than i did it back on the Amiga in the 90's - however, both solutions work.

i hate puzzles, everyone doens't want to do major puzzle solving in every rgp, its a bit old..a little is ok its like indian jones but i'm not playing this game for puzzle solving. however its an awesome game and i'm glad they don't make the puzzles too hard cause its just annoying getting stuck to long on puzzle, but a little is ok.

I agree. I LOVE games with puzzles. But if the game tells you the answers, then it's just an inconvenience instead of a puzzle. As much as I love the Elder Scrolls, if I could find a game with good puzzles that was also realistic like the Elder Scrolls instead of cartoonish and unimmersive I would buy that instead. I absolutely love the Myst series, if they could have deep interesting mysterious puzzles that make your brain hurt in the quests instead of just following some boring instructions, it would be the greatest game ever invented.

The logic puzzles are easy and fairly entertaining. It somewhat helps explain why all those bandits couldn't clear out the dungeon after so many years. What I hate tho is the hunt for switch ones. Those are annoying.

lol, the puzzles can be solved by 5 year olds dude...

Not all. Some are actually somewhat complex and will make you stop and look carefully.

I actually like them but I think some need some higher level of intricacies to make them more rewarding once they are done.

The pillar puzzles are tedious, not because of challenge, but because lack of it. I see the answer on the wall. Now I halt everything and set up the pieces so that X will open. No sense of accomplishment since the answer was right there. Same w/ claw locks.

The mage puzzle in that dwemer area was OK, but again, the answer is given by the mage there.

Needs more of them actually and much much more harder ones. Most of these are hardly puzzles when the answer is usually just in front of you.
I love how they give flavor to the dungeons and thus make them not feel like just same old kill everything in sight. But yeah MORE and HARDER ones please.

I think it'd be kinda cool if they added some scavenger hunt style puzzles with no pointers helping out.

Kinda like the Riddler puzzles in Arkham Asylum.

They are a change up from just running through the dungeon killing everything in your path, but after the first puzzle it becomes quite redundant.

I like the idea of puzzles, but they need to be better done. Make some puzzles that are actually puzzling, please. I play actual adventure games, where puzzles are basically the entire point - I'd be quite happy if things like that were included in Skyrim. As-is, they directly tell you all of the answers. Not puzzling at all.

Doesn't help that the answer to the puzzle is either on the claws or right in front of us XD. Damn it. What happened to riddles!? What happened to keys!? What happened to hidden doors, password and "pull the levers in the proper order" puzzles?! D:

Is it just me or does it feel like someone went round going, "Hey a dragonborn is coming, give this "key" to anyone willing to help you"
